Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

I just want to turn in my...

Keys..

I'm a general manager for the store in region 9, i'm hoping my interview went well so I can finally leave this place. I'm over Staples. I'm so sick and tired of never having hours or enough employees to run an efficient business, this has become beyond ridiculous. I don't care what happens first, me either finding a job or Staples chooses to close down my location. I don't deserve the stress and the handful of employees I do have don't deserve it either. It's ridiculous the stress that they deal with for a measly $10 an hour. But I can't even schedule my part-timers to work more than eight hours a week. I honestly can say I absolutely hate Staples, A joke of a company. I've been a GM for close to two years, I now know why everyone left before me.

I was working for Staples for 13 years as a sales manager before I left about a year and half ago. The day I turned my keys in, it's was like the stress and anxiety just dropped out of me! I took time off before starting my new job and just relaxed. Since then, I started working for another company and conducted business like I did with Staples. Then my bosses at my new company already promoted me to a new position. Only a year in with this company, and people here recognized the work and effort I give them. Where Staples would have just given you more obstacles to jump over. When accomplishing a goal, another task or clean up is thrown at you because another manager just walked out.

Leaving was the best decision. I recommended it. And your doing the best thing.

I left 3 weeks ago, best decision ever made and life will bettr. Toxic, poisonous, stressful...pile on unrealistic goals with zero help. Cut hours, be micro managed! Get sh-- about punching in 5 mins late but if you stay an hour after your shift sure no problem we need the help because others managers and gm's could give a f**k about your dept. Because they hate their job anyway. Cant blame them! The DSM is a tool whos been with the company for years and wins accolades and gets his plaques and awards because of the hard work of his minions and trolls. Staples does not want employees to grow or advance. God forbid you try to better yourstand get into an HQ role. They sabotage you on feedback but yet tell you youll do great! FU Staples get out while you can and consider it a blessing if your laid off, terminated for being tardy or just leave .... its for the best!

Good for you! I remember that feeling it is awesome when you get out of such a toxic environment. Who is next? Leave them scrambling.

I just quit this morning, I put my keys in the empty electonics recycling bin and filled it with computers printers and 40 pounds of speaker wire and crt old monitors. Have fun picking that out. Then I blocked all my staples contacts phone numbers on my cellphone. You did me wrong for way to long, I returned the favor. Later! My new job starts May 1st, flying to Vegas tonight. A celebrating for signing onto my new job I signed last night. Writing this as I'm packing my bags, I don't think I've ever been this excited.

Wait till your dm is in the store again and you have no one on the sales floor. The copy center is out of control and they need your help. Then throw him your keys and say you do it I am out of here. It feels great trust me.

I know several managers that had breakdowns and/or developed GI disorders from all the stress handed down from corporate.

My advice...leave your keys in the safe, call the DM, and tell them you are gone. The time you gain will give you the ability to search for a job. They pushed several GM;s I know to nervous breakdowns, depression, and anxiety disorders. Not a good place to work I AM GONE!

Get out and find a new career, retail is history, the glory day's are over with. A ton of us left, either of our own accord or not. Constantly complaining about this miserable company does nothing but adds to your stress level.

they have leases. if shuttng the stores now would earn more money, you can be sure it would have happened already.

Corporate is a joke. They should just go ahead and shut down all the stores. That is the eventual plan anyway so just get it over with. Go online only and direct B2B. See if Staples can compete with Amazon. Doubtful. At least stop pretending you want a store presence since corporate obviously does not. If they did they would do more to make the stores successful. Staples is crumbling.

Everything you said is spot on, and I am sure 90% of GMs agree, but corp. does not care. They WANT turnover.
