This was a stupid conference anyways but it points to a different kind of Intel.

Just the prelude to many more ACTs. So sad intel fumbled a huge process lead, money and profits the envy of the industry. Arrogant and stupid leadership ruined this once great company. That is the legacy of CRB, PSO and the clown from San Jose State the worse of them all. BK will preside over the collapse!
IDF had lost its lustre under BK, but it was still a great networking event for customers, who had wide access to all sorts of technical resources and executives - you couldn't put together a better scenario. BK and his staff never understood its value despite everyone in the trenches singing its praises.
It's also pretty late in the game to be cancelling - let the rumor mill begin on why.
Brutal and just shows how completely out of touch Intel leadership is with the real world: "Over the last few years, Intel has gone out of their way to not release technical information to anyone, press, developers, and even random onlookers even if they need it for the right reasons. This is not by chance, it was a strategic decision for reasons that SemiAccurate can’t comprehend or rationalize. When you throw a conference to educate developers, it is called Intel Developer Forum mind you, then you might consider actually doing what the conference promised."
And how working at Intel is just bizarro-world:
"On the GPU side it was great, they actually included much of the information developers needed and wanted. They had very clear and concise printed materials, answered basic questions, and developers were quite happy. After the talk was over, most were complementary and mentioned the difference between the CPU and GPU sessions. Intel did their job and developers, at least GPU developers, were very happy.
When word of this disparity hit Intel management, to their credit they took swift action to rectify the situation. By the next day, word had reached SemiAccurate that the GPU team had been severely reprimanded for, err, doing their job.

After 20 years, Intel is scrapping its marquee annual Intel Developer Forum event, where tech enthusiasts gathered to load up on the chipmaker's news and technologies.
IDF started off in 1997 as a small event in Palm Springs, California. The show was later moved to San Francisco and vastly expanded during a boom in the PC market.
But with the PC market slowing down, the attraction of IDF has also dwindled. Intel's future isn't tied to PCs but instead to areas like data centers, autonomous cars, modems, the internet of things, and manufacturing.
I'm going to miss BK and his BMX bikes and drone shows in a pathetic attempt to portray Intel as some hip, young and relevant company.
There's always reality TV for that.

What does IDF stand for? Old Intel-er here. I'm glad I moved out years ago.
