I've always thought the severance packages were to prevent whistle blowers. In my experience most people could severely damage the company by contacting News organizations and giving them stories about what is really happening (this is from the HPE side, questionable business practices, things that would not pass "the headline test").
I wonder if we'll see more of that if the DXC severance is really that bad.
