This is a honest question. It's puzzling. There is a thread on this below and we had two guys let go on my project (large Fortune 100 company, ~50 GBS folks on the project).
Any ideas?

I was in GTS and let go due to the client not renewing essential service contracts. I was a billable employee making a below average salary for majority of my tenure, (in my early 30s)
To sum it up, f--- these bean counters, and move on!
If you were laid off from IBM Global Business Services and you believe it was unjustified then you should talk to the manager of the individual who axed your position about having your job reinstated. Usually this means speaking to someone who is fairly high up. IBM managers never side with their employees in these or any circumstances and you should therefore exploit this loophole to reverse your termination. When I worked at IBM my former manager made it a point of never siding with her staff, even if you were right and the other party was in the wrong.
Hope this helps.
Because they can. IBM is a dinosaur. In 20 years, IBM will not exist. It is systematically being destroyed. If employed at IBM, find a new job.
Because IBM is run by a bunch of idiots. They live quarter to quarter and don't realize they will lost out in the long run. What will happen based on what I have seen is they will replace the resource with a cheaper one who has less experience and can't handle the role. Long story short, nothing is delivered by IBM and the client kicks them out once they realize they wasted millions of dollars with no results.
It's likely that:
they (mgmt) know the resource will not be chargeable
performance issues exist
a less expensive resource can be placed instead
nothing else comes to mind
The previous five SCAMS "strategic areas" of Security, Cognitive, Analytics, Mobile and Social seem to be
collapsing into just one: Watson. That's the only one where IBM can even pretend to be an innovator. Unfortunately they have overpromised and underdelivered, and it seems they're stalling with this constant churn until they can catch up.
Because if they can replace them with lower cost workers and bill the same rate to the customer, more profit.
