I heard there are more layoffs coming in IT. Any confirmed news on this?
Life is getting worse day by day. Continuous lay offs. And continuous movement in moving jobs to offshore.
Hope this will done someday and environment will be stable.

Our IT spend is in the bottom quartile of competing companies. It's pathetically amazing that our IT shop functions as well as it does. All comments coming from Exec Mngr show how little they know about IT. If we could charge back and show the stupid sh-- the business demands when the same can be done with a different configure for half the cost usually, but the business doesn't ever listen. And somehow it's all IT's fault. Bunch of freaking idiots.
60% is way too much. It will completely decimate IT. I doubt whether it will be that huge.
60% RIF.
Are the IT cuts only in OKC or also in other US locations like Cupertino, Longmont, Minn?
Date for next RIF in IT.
Confirmed May/June (prior to fiscal year-end) OKC IT.
"Big cuts" was what I was told.
IT execs want everything possible to be cloud-based ... Read between the lines there and plan accordingly.
Um....Lotus Notes s---ed atleast from my perspective(end user). What 'stability' are you talking about?
Go figure. When they made the corporate decision to exit Lotus Notes, many local groups were stuck having to figure out how to port (or rebuild) their once stable applications on cheaper or unstable applications. The net wound up costing more $$$ in the long run but hey....I'm sure someone got a gold medal for that decision!
There are a lot of 'IT' functions and systems that previously had been under engineering. Moving that stuff under 'IT' made the overall company more efficient, but made the 'IT' budget appear larger than what was normal for other tech companies. Today, when cuts are made to Seagate IT, they are more likely to impact the design and production of our core products.
It was pointed out the IT budget was LARGER than the entire HDD head R&D budget for the company. Do you think a reduction in IT spend is reasonable? It didn't sound like IT was managed well. People who don't understand IT can only cut costs by layoffs. It's up to IT management to drive internal cost reductions so that doesn't happen.
What a sh--ty company to work for.
Seagate needs to get smaller since the annual sales of HDD will decline as SDD picks up. Regular layoffs go hand in hand with their reduction in revenues in the future. Since the technology is mature, there will be more layoffs in the US as they no longer need huge development staffs. If you're miserable, start looking for a job with a company that will keep talent in the US.
Why dont you look for a job outside and leave Seagate instead of leading a miserable life?
