Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Reality check....if you are not already, become a motivated team player

As posted on CVE

Unfortunately investors agree CVE now has a record of failing shareholders and given the market/ price for COP, it makes many investors question the deal.

This acquisition will complicate CVE operations as the COP/CVE culture clash will consume resources, as ALWAYS occurs with large companies(particularly US/Cdn co's ). Moreso thru acquisitions when pride/superiority complicates teamwork essential to focus on progress vs personalities. Often proves best to hire from outside either company as those hires focus on the combined entity.

If managed appropriately this could turn positive should redundancy =massive, timely G&A reductions to benefit the bottom line/investors....as much as i feel for those laid off, it's prime time to cut costs, retain only the best educated/experienced/motivated from both companies and turn CVE around. COP was already a mess and dysfunctional....AND start at the Exec level, P4P (ie too many already)

Unfortunately almost everyone feels they are more valuable than they probably are, so I suspect combined staff will identify pay for performance disparity like never before...but this time good luck finding a similar paying job elsewhere.

The only thing you can control is your effort and attitude. Be thankful that you receive an offer. Folks I know at Cenovus like it there, are generally well-treated and work in the nicest digs in town. Embrace the change and good luck to all. At least your programs will see some funding now

valid post. The ego-centric, self entitled types were already a nonfunctional part of the COP team that Cenovus doesn't want in to poison their staff morale

I suspect they are the most concerned because they should be...Calgary's a small town, don't fool yourself as to your perceived abilities, credentials/employeability, head office connections won't matter. Putting aside your attitude may

You are forgetting one very big key aspect....everyone is crawling over everyone else to get or keep their job. They are only looking out for themselves and that is where the egos, attitudes, opinions and entitlements come from. No culture can get away from it. In addition this is a purchase not a merger. Look for another shakeout in 6 months and then in another 6 months. Thats the reality.
