Thread regarding Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) layoffs

I stuck around when 3PAR was bought. But now, I question if I should have left when 1/2 of my coworkers left. What will happen to 3PAR storage?

I was original 3PAR back in the day. HP acquired us. A lot of folks I worked with left. I stuck around. I don't feel excited about our products anymore. 3PAR was great. But now?

Any tea leaf readers out there can tell me what will be the future of 3PAR? Will that die or get sent to India too? Wouldn't be surprised if hardware started getting outsourced. I should of left.

Stay calm but starting looking for a job and be serious about it. Continue to get paid while HPE flounders. Find a position in another company and don't look back.

Can you think of any company purchased by Compaq/HPE that continued to flourish? Most get absorbed, former management gets laid off and replaced by HPE management and collapse soon follows.

3par is a cash cow now. Has been for the past 18 months or so. The new money infusion will be in simplicity and acquisitions in SDS | hyperconverged business.

San Nas business has been in secular decline industry wide! Afa segment was a reverse blip in that trend that is already starting to reverse.

If you want to stay in storage area go where the growth is. Cloud hyperscalers like amazon Facebook MS azure etc OR work on NAND flash| SCM IP holding companies. They two are fuelling the growth taking market away from traditional storage system vendors. Very very few storage startups will make a niche going forward. Even pure and nutanix stock is lacklustre.

Why are you still there? The writing has been on the wall since acquisition with the acquisition being the peak of your 3PAR career. You should know that 95% of the original 3PAR folks have moved on to other opportunities. A scary number of them have traded yellow shirts in for orange but you already know that too. Fremont is a leased site and HP owns a lot of other properties. Haven't you been to Colorado Springs or Texas to train others on how to do your job? There has been a mass exodus of 3PAR folks since acquisition. Folks are still trickling out now due to getting bored and finding new opportunities or getting WFR'd. If you want to maximize your cash out, maybe work with your boss and see if he/she can arrange a "package" for you. Other than that, start calling your old 3PAR buddies that have gone to other storage companies and tell them you are "looking." Maybe reach out to the folks at the storage company you worked at before 3PAR.

@1zmw thanks for the support. I seem to live in "coulda-shoulda-woulda" land. I'm not the only one who feels dismal. I saw someone else on here post that they lost their passion a few weeks ago. That's how I feel. And @1grt, you are right that it is never too late. That other post about being 45 and looking for another job has motivated me. Where I live at my age, it's hard finding a company that will take us "old farts" seriously. I won't give up though.

And @1zgn ... I doubt it will get better. It is only a matter of time before hardware also gets outsourced. I better look outside of IT too.

Coulda-shoulda-woulda is a sad place to be, and I have lingered long there myself... I am sorry to say, bro or bro-ess, I have no good advice, actually, to offer, that you haven't heard already (most likely). But you do have my remote, anonymous sympathy, for what little that may be worth. Sometimes life sukks, sometimes the good guys take it on the chin. Persevere, my friend! The good guys win in the end!
