Surprise, right? Since this is just supplemental retirement income and something to do, it's okay. But the ones counting on Sears can't say that. And Eddie should be ashamed.

Around here, the former Wal-Mart employees who come to Sears AND Kmart say that these are much better places to work than Wal-Mart. These folks don't know each other and don't have loads in common but all say this.
Myself? I want to get out of retail. No offense to anyone but I don't want it to be my entire career. I don't hate the work, it's just so hard to get ahead with the pay.
I think target is having some problems too.
To the person who asked why we aren't going to Walmart or Target for employment, here's why, they only want part-time people and the pay is low. Some of us who have been at Sears for a while do make a decent hourly wage. So with that being said why go somewhere and start for a lower wage? Would you do that? I think most people would get more from severance pay and unemployment. I also know people who work at Walmart and if you aren't a manager you don't make money.
Serious question: to all of you who really need the hours to survive, why are you not heading to Target or Walmart or any other retailer (or restaurant)? Every one of these types of businesses in my area are looking for help and many are pretty desperate.
At the last comment. They are just referring to the mca (floor help) and cac (cashier) jobs being combined at the store level
@hdy Was that a Sears or a Kmart? How did they merge the Sales support? Was it all the Sales support staff or just certain departments?
Hours are bad for us too since the merge of Sales Support. The sad part is that even though we are supposed to be one team, their is still favoritism. Also the former CAC team isn't really being trained to do all the former MCA duties. But they are making sure the former MCAs know how to run the register.
My hours have been cut and I am one of those people who need the money. My manager has told me that he cannot afford to loose me however I am looking beyond a second part time job. If I get a full time job with a steady schedule will leave. I like my manager and hate to put him in a bind but I cannot afford to stay and hope things improve.
I'm in a commissioned department (at least for now), with hours also cut. Since store traffic has been so low, I've been doing my own networking to get people in here to buy appliances. I hope it continues to work. This also is extra money for me, so as with the original poster, I can live with it for now. I'm at an alleged top-tier store, and we're slow. If we are better off than 75 percent of the other stores, the company is in very dire straits, as it is quite grim here.
What position(s) are you all in?
Im afraid that this is only the beginning, hours at store level are already at bare bones, worse than payroll hours in January. This company can never get the concept that cutting hours at store level doesn't actually save money and it hurts the stores.
And yes. Eddie should be ashamed. Plenty of money in the budget to hire the high level execs @ 1 million $ or so a piece when you include bonuses but you're cutting my minimum wage hours? Execs that are doing more damage to the company than if their position was vacant.
I was just debating whether to post here but same thing happened to me. I do need the income the longer hours provided so I'm trying to look at this as a good opportunity to use that extra time to look for a different job. I don't know if it's crazy to look at other part time jobs and see if I can make them both work. Probably crazy. I have to remember that it's not going to get better.
At least I know it's nothing personal.
