I had a very good friend of mine that use to work as QMT in southern California. He left it and happier than ever. Sears doesnt care or give raises to its own hard working employees. They rather let a good worker leave and pay less. Thats the Sears sh*tty motto.
I was a qmt from 1993 until 2006 and the requirements of the job became incredulous. continuous rollouts, continuing moves of cash wraps, registers, electrical, phone wiring, etc. this job could not be handled by three persons, let alone, one person. all the hvac work, motors, filters, condenser cleaning, etc. and rewiring division 57 since they wanted to move everything, for what reason, no one can advise me. continuous register problems, board replacements, ordering parts, pen and scanner replacements and rewrapping and sending bad parts to the mfr. for rebuilding. since all quality maintenance personnel have been released, what a mess the stores have become, half of the regs. not working, lights out, elect. floor boxes sticking up (trip hazards), etc. what an ignorant move on the part of the organization. another brilliant move on mr. eds part, as a man once said, "PAY ME NOW OR PAY ME LATER"! IT IS ALL COMING DOWN MR. ED. THE END IS NIGH FOR THE ENTIRE ORGANIZATION AND SOONER THAN YOU MAY THINK.
We use to have a very good one when I was their he said that he ended up leaving the company a few years ago with better overall pay, more hours, and the environment being so much better.
We have had a guy come privately I think though they just bring him whenever their is a need to do anything.
I was QMT 2 for 15 years from CA and I was one of the best they had in my district and I couldn’t take it anymore. There has been no raise for about 10 years and I felt they were just taking advantage of us . I got another job in maintenance for way better pay and a lot of overtime available. I hate to say it but I am happier now. Sears took my motivation away while I was there.
All QMA'S were let go. Position gone nation wide.
Most of the original (Building Maintenance) skilled frontline QMTs retired or quit for greener pastures in the late 80s-early 90s . The replacements (PMTs-FSAs ) working for about 1/2 to 1/3 the pay of a QMT.
Store staff got more involved in operating the heat and a/c . It was obvious by the catastrophic failures of equipment that it wasn't working out. But since a $40-70k a person maintenance person (or persons) wasn't there, The QM program was deemed a success.
Was also deemed a success by all the HVAC vendors that sold heating and Air Conditioning equipment to the stores when the management trashed a unit. And service and follow up calls. What a goldmine.
QMTs are skilled trades for the most part. You should have no problem finding work in your field. And I don't mean changing light bulbs and moving fixtures. Good Luck !
That's what my 8th grader said when I told her a little bit about what's happening. She said that someone was going to get hurt at my store & sue. Not just my store but the whole company!!!
Putting my mom bias aside, I have to admit she just an average 8th grader but she seems to understand liability better than billion dollar Eddie, although she cares if someone gets hurt & he does not.
So we have AP cuts, no QMT's or Qma's. Sounds like an accident or lawsuit waiting to happen.
Both of them
Anyone know if this affected just Qma's? Or qmts also?
I am one of the few QMT's in South Florida left and I know my days are numbered our team has been cut into 1/3 of what it was. I believe when they announce another round of store closing that will be it and thank God, just give me my 8 weeks and I will walk out the door and never look back.
That's what I just wrote in another thread. These layoffs were planned. Have the severance ready. Give people their local unemployment info.
Our guy quit a few months back, as he had the chance to move on to much greener pastures. It was then we heard not to bother to take applications.
These should have been the folks turning out the lights on the final day. They will be missed.
The one at my store was let go last Thursday. I was told the position was eliminated at least for the stores in my area.
And you won't see him/her any time soon.
