Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

From HR source...

No layoffs this year, but 2018 will see SSL4 from 2016 and 2017 gone with no package. SSL4 this year is to demoralize and make people go away on their own without any package.

People in fabs working crazy hours and find growth to senior levels very hard.

Other divisions work 40-50 hours and so many PEs around who all get to travel business class.

Slaves in TMG are the fools, slaving away for Sohail.

People figured out you get the same review and pay if you work 38 hours a week or if you work 65.

I have no insight into the Fabs (so my comment does not apply to those orgs), but over the last 10 years of travel to Chandler, Portland and Santa Clara, I was always amazed at what a ghost town each campus became after 5PM. Hard to tell if that was WFH, but I'm guessing not.

Intel was built on three things.

  1. Great insight from senior management.

  2. The ability to hire the top of the class engineers.

  3. Employees willing to work 12 hour days

This provided growth that allowed Intel to not lay off people for decades.

How many of these attributes are still prevalent at Intel ?

If all three, then layoffs are over, if anyone is missing enjoy the calm but realize you are in the middle of the hurricane.

@Lzmw3nZ-2wny I agree, intel is a one trick pony, beyond x86 and manufacturing it in an totally restrictive process unsuitable for anything else they have nothing. Thet are so insular and incompetent look at their failures to see what their probability in AI, IoT, modems, and others. They will fail as they have in the past 😉

The foundry failure, tablet failure, mobile failure, CLEAR, Itaniuim etc etc. only validates intels inability to do anything else.

Management front middle line to the top is full of narrow thinking and arrogant x86 who don't know how to do anything else or compete.

10nm will cause TMG to implode and without it nothing else. Unlike IBM which has many other things intel has nothing. 2017 and 2018 will be ugly for intel

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Intel will not survive as IBM has, due to its dark insular culture. When paradigm shift occurs, new players will emerge in computing... Next year Intel will be 50yo company, how long can it last??

@1iqi the company will always be as draconian as necessary when the stock price, due to bad earnings and lack of leadership, is going down Shareholders first, employees last.

Again the company can't be draconian in the future as millennials will not be as loyal as employees who started working in 80s or 90s are. Company needs to deal with this aspect of future workforce, some employees will always be disposable but need to tread carefully..

Dont know which part of the flat revenue story wall street is not seeing pushing the stock up, high on cool aid...more likely we saw share buy back by the company pshing it up. Wall street is not stupid and will soon see them on sell side

If you read the earnigs, while q4 looked great the problem is 2017 guidance which is flat at 59.4b. Also they are expecting to get hgher eps on flat revenue through r&d cost reduction and higher margin from 60.9 to 62%. The 2017 r&d shows reduction of 500m from 2016, from 21b to 20.5 and magin uplift. This means

Intel is not expecting top line growth but eps growth by keeping cost down. Operationally a challenging year with lot of cost pressure eveywhere. I would think small layoffs nothing big. The challenge keeping the revenue at least flat. If some of the trade wars slide it you will see a change of tone in q2 q3. I hope intel does well and succeeds, it will be a hard year and i am not sure what else yhey can do. They are clearly admitting the top line growth is capped, would help to avoid many acquisitions and stay focused on exec. Good luck to all employees and hope they pull through the slump

Maybe management realizes younger employees won't be staying as long due to generation change of work culture and older employees are more valuable to keep stable workforce over next 10-15 years? Some layoffs always necessary, but perhaps not as deep..

Anyone who got SL4 in 2016 was gone in ACT. I got my first L4 for in two decades just so my management could make distribution for gr10 and above what a boss he was!

Not surprised they continue tact, as it is easy to just continue to trim every year another 3-5% of the perceived bottom. Watch your back and understand your peer rank group.

What a GPTW, instead of a real strategy and cuts related to business unit and need we have the Hunger Games!
