once it is a store closing how does it proceed? If I still work there do I have to stay till the end or lose benefits? How is product dealt with? Thanks and God Bless all

There is no more overtime in liquidation. You can get 40 hour weeks though.
I need to know if the severance pay for full-timers are 30, 35, or 40 hours a week. Full-timers at Sears is 30 hours or more. I have always receive 35 or 40 hours a week for 18 years. We are only getting 10 hours a week on OT. Thanks,
Just think of it this way, if you don't mind working then you can make as much in a few months then you would make in a whole year. There is no limit to the hours you work so take advantage of it. If you quit then unemployment usually not an option, but as the previous poster stated SHC usually doesn't contest it, so it is a crap shoot. Just before you liquidate every item in the store will go to full price and then be marked down from there. I know when we closed employees were hiding all sorts of things for the 90% markdown. Just work your a** off for a couple of months and take a few months off and still make the same money.
What about our vacation time when our store closes? Is the vacation we are due paid out separately from our severance? Or is it included in the 8 weeks severance? We've heard both, but it doesn't seem fair to have our severance reduced just because we still have vacation on the books.
Wow I have been through 5 Kmart's closings in my area being a Quality maintenance tech and these posts nail exactly what happens.
Generally it takes about 12 weeks dependant upon movement of merchandise and other items such as fixtures. It can be little shorter or longer.
But a plan for your store will be in place and you will be given a general idea of the time frame.
And yes, you must remain employed until you are released, separated, and/or a layoff is issued, if you wish to collect unemployment and/or severance pay if you qualify.
Resigning or quitting unqualifies you for unemployment compensation and severance.
Nothing, however, can stop you from seeking new employment opportunities and accepting a new job, as both unemployment and severance is temporary. And it seems to be easier to get a job while you are employed.
