Everyone knows big layoffs are coming, managers are about to offer early retirement packages to employees aged 55+ with at least 10 years of experience. Usually this is done prior to more general layoffs so good luck everyone.

I'm in a non-IT area where many were laid off on 3/2. There was NO early retirement offered to those 55+ and 10+ years of service - just severance based on years of service. We were told that this is the 'first wave' of layoffs.
I am aware of some folks outside IT who were offered the early retirement package so it does not appear to be confined to IT. Honestly if they would offer the package to people who are eligible for retirement in the next 2 years I would probably consider it. Anthem has a lot to offer but I've done everything I want to do there and am ready for something else, but don't want to walk away from the "golden handcuffs."
It's all departments based on age and time at the company. I also wonder if it has anything to do with salary. In other words, the more you make the more likely you are to receive the offer. I think the concern is, if I don't apply for this "early retirement" offer am I at the top of the list for future layoffs.
Is Cigna layoff people as well. I heard that they are or soon will be. Can anyone cofirm if this is true.?
Only IT is offered the package
Anyone know if this is company wide, or just select departments?
The offers came out today with the 3 dates in April, May, and June.
Does this apply only to IT or other areas at Anthem?
This just happened to our team today. People that meet the criteria will be offered an additional 13 weeks of severance and have 1 month to decide if they're going to accept this "one time" offer. They have to pick one of 3 "retirement" dates, the latest being in June 2017. We were given no information on the plans for those that were not eligible, but I would agree that it's likely that the rest will be laid of this year based on this.
I can confirm it. People will be told in February what their fate is. Either you are being moved this year or you are moved by 2020. Most people will NOT be given relocation and will be severed, unless you are deemed worthy to be part of the future.
