Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Lack of respect, lack of consistency

I work at a Sears and according to management we are doing fine; but I have a hard time believing anything from a company that allows blatant disrespect. Everything from refusing to acknowledge that people have lives outside of work to yelling at associates on the sales floor. I had a manager literally standing a foot away screaming at me for doing something he told me do before becouse a customer got mad at him. I almost walked out and told him he could man my department since was their alone. I went to my local HR to file a formal complaint and was refered to my manager (not yhe one who had the screaming tissy fit for all to see). Later I found out he was promoted to another store. This man claimed he was well liked and got along with everyone, yet everyone who left due to issues with management sited him as the main reason. The company has rampant revolving door employemt and many myself included who thaught this would be a good way to break into management are seeking to flee. A rat knows when to swim away from a sinking ship and the attitudes of management at my store has me thinking that some missed their calling as actors and others are trying to pretent things are great but know that they are not. Here is a link to a great article that gives some insite. I am not the only one who has been yelled at over trying to do my job. If I have one more instance where a manager sceams at me like that again I am walking out and filling an abuse complaint. No one deserves to be treated like trash for trying to do a job that they were promised pays an average of $11, but in reality pays minimum wedge becouse ther is not enough products to bring in the foot traffic needed to make commission.

Pittsburgh was on the buddy-buddy system before the merger.

A few good folks , but a lot of self-promoting back stabbers in the mix.

Glad the good guys got out with their pensions and money.

Same thing here. We have a SM that is sight unseen until she stumbles out of her office to complain about metrics and everything else under the sun. Nothing is never good enough. She sits in her office all day and does God knows what.

I have seen her by a register with customers waiting to check out in multiple occasions. She will not ring on the register to save her life. Instead, she will get on the intercom and call for customer service, even though every sales associate is with a customer. She won't even do other store tasks, she will just stand there and watch--and bark orders. She likes making threats too.

She's just a very unapproachable, unhappy person. Everyone avoids interactions with her as much as possible, including other managers.

Ever watch Matilda? That's our store manager.

Flee as fast as you possibly can. Hanging onto this job will just sap your morale and add nothing positive to your work history. It's like staying on the the deck of the Titanic after it hit the iceberg hoping to get experience in running a cruise ship. If you want to get into management, go to a company with profits and sales growth. A lot of companies are going to get a nice boost in sales after SHC goes under. Things should be good for Lowes, Home Depot, e.t.c..

I have been told to use translator apps on my personal phone to help customers who did not speak English becouse the associates who arw bilingual were not available and I had to try to sell them a credit card. I have also had to use my personal phone to look up videos on how to use and troubleshoot tools they want me to sell to help customers with. I can't access these through the company computers and managements attitude os that I should just know how to do it all. I would love to own more tools, but I cannot afford buy them. With the employee discount being changed to points I don't see myself buying from sears or lmart anytime in the near future.

Much of the same for Sears in Pittsburgh. The same management buddy/buddy system for promotions of those who were never able to get the numbers they are looking for. Including the district manager or the ridiculous midget market leader. These are the same people that never lift a finger or go behind a register. The stores are looking like ghost towns.

I feel what you are saying. I m at a Kmart and it is the same way here. We have had our HR tell cashiers at the register with customers that if they don't get their numbers up they are fired. All other managers don't seem to care anymore. We have employees that shop most of their shift, managers have been told and they even comment on it them selves but do nothing about it
