It's sad what happened in our company. But when I read all these angry comments I have an impression that they laid off the right people. Everything is more complex than we might think so please think twice before you share your opinion on other people/countries/nations. Regards, Decent people of EMEA.

To the presumably U.S. worker who wrote the below retort-thank you! It's not bad enough to have to go through this after all the extra hours and difficult people that you sometimes have to work with. I'm sure the EMEA person didn't mean for thei comment to be as hurtful and insulting as it was . No one here is whining, it's extreme frustration when you've done you're job well and get shown the door with absolutely no recourse. Best of luck to my fellow lay-offers. I hope your downtime is brief.
"Decent people" of EMEA have absolutely no clue of the hard choices American employees have to make when they are laid off. Unlike the "decent people" of EMEA they immediately lose all source of income as they cannot rely on employment benefit to feed their families and pay their mortgage.
All of a sudden, unlike the "decent people" in EMEA they lose medical coverage. For a short time, they have what is called COBRA a coverage that most of us cannot afford because it is cost prohibitive. Unlike the "decent people" in EMEA a laid off US employee has little to no recourse apart from trying to find another job with benefits as quickly as humanly possible otherwise the following happens very quickly; use up all savings, including retirement (no state pension here), default on mortgage, unable to pay medical bills or medication, unable to pay children college education so kids have to be pulled out of college, etc. So before the 'decent people' in EMEA make uneducated, heartless comments like the above, they should ask themselves whether they are indeed 'decent human beings'.
The execs acknowledged a "very small" layoff.
Two weeks pay per year of seniority? That is what I heard in Southlake.
The comment above about the right people getting laid off because they are upset or angry at the moment, has no understanding of how it feels. ; knowing it was about being in wrong department at the wrong time; or if one person has it out for you ; when names are picked its about who you know and NOT how well you do your job. everyone has a right to their opinion; the company has been doing business like this for 15+ years. Nothing changes, except the guy at the bottom.
Do we know if it is done? Shall we expect more ?
Strangely they don't think twice before promoting many of their slimy friends as directors. If the slimy friend is also fluffy he gets a double promotion. Strangely when we try to interview for a level high position on another team, the HR has special questions for us. They get a waiver, I guess due to their talent. An entire team is disgusted so much so that they leave or join other teams.
