Thread regarding Sears layoffs

why is better to cut a worker

severance is 8 weeks. I could have worked that 8 weeks. Now I wake up in the middle of the night wondering why my job is gone and who or what or WHY me...it was my job and I took ownership of it. Worked many hours off the clock because I was set to get it all done. I do not understand SHC paying teenagers to goof and play and then eliminating me after so many years. I really hate it all so much and it is not right to be done to us.

The OP has a good point. It doesn't make sense to cut somebody who is making a contribution and giving them severance pay for doing nothing. It comes down to incredibly stupid management. And unfortunately it's the typical way of thinking in many corporations. They assume by "cutting costs" somehow everything else remains the same and more profit dollars will flow to the bottom line. But since the people they are cutting are generating the sales and profits, they end up ruining the business. This has been going on with Sears for decades.

It's different when a company "trims the fat" and get rid of (mostly) administrative people who really aren't contributing to the bottom line. But SHC is long past the "fat" and is destroying itself with the senseless cuts.

The point of severance is to help you transition to whatever is next on your path, not to have you work. Use that time to get yourself into a better place. Your loyalty to Sears is no longer justified, they broke their contract with you, and you owe them less than nothing at this point. Their epic mismanagement has cost so many people like you dearly, it is time for you to work for someone/something that is worth being loyal to.

If you can survive SHC you can survive any job.

Hold on in there. I got let go once, unfortunately it is the reality of business and in Sears case very bad business. How you move on is in your hands now, you can be a victim and let Sears win or you can take your great experience and apply it elsewhere. Don't drown your sorrows in a bottle or escape through tv on the couch. Stay healthy, get sleep, relax when you can, pray or some other form of spiritual comfort, volunteer once a week somewhere to provide you with self pride that can get lost when you are let go. Know that you can be great and that your next job is around the corner, it will Help you shine whenever you do get that interview - your Sears days and the experiences of the horrors you faced in dealing with such a disgusting organization wil maker you stronger in your next role, use it to your advantage. Good luck, look after yourself and God bless.

I'm sorry for your job loss.

It is nothing you have done. It is normal to feel sad and angry and grieve the loss of your job. It sounds like you were a hard worker and took pride in your work and for that you should feel good about yourself.

The company is run terribly and by a bunch of executives who care about nothing but enriching themselves. The level of greed is astounding and unfortunately most employees, if not all, will eventually get laid off. Life will go on and new opportunities will appear. You have a lot to offer another company. You sound like a hardworking, loyal employee and another company would be lucky to have you.

Godspeed

Nothing you did or anything anyone has done, it is just a SH*T company run for the pleasure and profit of a few.

Hang in there. I went through the same thing until I found a new job. Don't blame yourself for any of it, A all bad leadership. Hold your head up high. Lots of companies want employees who own their job and work hard.
