Thread regarding Altice USA (Cablevision) layoffs

Anti union drivel

"Arguments against unions sometimes stem from the employer’s perceived inability to offer higher wages for products at a low enough price that they can successfully compete with rival companies."

AT&T= UNIONIZED, Verizon= UNIONIZED, Two huge companies making billions of dollars a month, so yeah right I guess they can't compete with rival companies.

@ialq is another dope who does not understand that his precious wireless service is useless without the fiber/copper backbone network behind it. That network is built and maintained by UNIONIZED Verizon wireline workers. FIOS is also the union/wireline side of the house.

@1alq, regardless how much money VZ is making or hemorrhaging as you put it or which side of the business the money is coming from or who they decide to sell the business to or what kind of new technology they implement in the future the work will be perform by Union Workers and they are going to get well paid for it with plenty of benefits and when they retire, cause workers that can't be layoff actually get to retire. Utilize their 401K, pension and full medical for the spouse too so they can enjoy their later years and their families and not have to worry about the BS that you will be worrying about when Altice put you on the streets. And to all those out there "Jesus Christ Stand Up And Fight For Your Jobs."

You do know att and Verizon make their millions off of wireless. The wireline side is hemorraging money. That's my they're hoping the new wifi spec will allow them to sell of their wireline business. And no they're all not making 45 with a pension. If you got a job to there you would not be union and you'd be let go before you're eligible. While you're at it ask the guys from Verizon who've already retired how their benefits are. They get cut in each new cba so that existing employees don't get upset with the union. Those are big concessions. More importantly take a look at the solvency of their union fund. Ask them to show you the financials at their next meeting. Guaranteed they won't or just tell you their great!

My apologies 1jfm you misunderstood my point. I was merely trying to point out the irony of the situation. The OP was making the point that Altice's argument for not choosing a union would be to better compete with the likes of ATT and VZ but from all indication it seems ATT and VZ complete quite well and make billions while having unions. My point was that during contract time and negotiations between VZ and the Unions, VZ always uses CV is the industry standard as to where salaries and benefits should be trying to have the Union make concessions by cutting pay and benies for VZ workers and bring them more in line with the industry standard under the guise of competing even though having a Union, the best pay and benies doesn't prohibit VZ from make billions. The irony.

My older brother works for Verizon. I met some of his coworkers a few years back at his bachelors party. This was when I was still a service tech and before the raises Dolan gave us in 2012. I had to lie to these guys in conversation when they were asking me what our pay scale is like, what top pay is, and how long it takes to get there because it was so embarrassing compared to their salaries. They were making double what I made at the time and did half of the work. Now mind you, this was before Altice. I thought we had it bad then. Never in my wildest dreams did I foresee this mess we're all headed for. And the service techs with a whopping three years under the belts think their numbers will save them. Ha, I guess we'll all have to wait and see. To be continued...

1kua, you're so full of crap it is coming out of your ears. Verizon techs make like $45 an hour, they've got both a 401k and pension plan, and most importantly, THEY"VE GOT A NO LAYOFF CLAUSE! So go ahead and try to convince the easily duped that a union is a bad thing.

And just a little irony for ya Lsvroff, every time contract time come around on the VZ side and negotiation commence they always try to use CV as a benchmark at where salaries and benefits should be for the industry.
