Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Whoever is the last one out the door, please turn off the lights.

Because if we can't afford to pay our creditors, we have trouble paying the utility bills, too.

I thought that was just the Sears where I work. Freezing cold. We wear layers, jackets & fleeces on the floor. Black of course.

Office, stock rooms & back room have no heat at all. Just mice. Plenty of mice.

I can tell you that 65 degrees may be the standard but the stores are below that. Our store was 55 degrees (the associates looked at the outdoor thermometers we sell) last week and they have turned off all heat in the backroom. You can see your breath back there.

Customers are complaining about how cold it is and how they need to wear a coat while they shop. Can't wait to see how summer turns out if we make it that far.

Our store has been set at 60 degrees since winter began. Everyone is wearing coats while working.

65 degrees has been the standard for the sales floor heating for the last 8+ years. Employee areas were 60 heating and 78 cooling. The cooling set point for the sales floor was 75.

My Kmart's are on lighting curtailment and they asked to be taken off because they were closing and corporate said no. They are definate to the end.

They have already lowered the temperature in our store. They store temp is now 65 degrees for the store and the back room now has no heat. Not really a problem in the back room because that heat hasn't worked in over two years but 65 for a store temp seems a little cold. But according to their "research" that is what the customers, oh sorry, members want

If you are a full-time employee in a Kmart store, look for layoffs by the end of this week. Most remaining hard lines department leads will go. Most stores with 2 pricing leads will lose at least 1. Most remaining jewelry leads will go.

Most SM's will be given their marching orders on Monday and sworn to secrecy until the dreaded call when you are paged to the HR office towards the end of the week. Be prepared when you hear your name called.

I scanned @ a kmart this morning and found 90% of clothes on clearance. Hardlines was about 75-90 % saying various not available or vendor issues or discontinued. It looks like liquidation before the real thing. I did not ask my supervisor what was happening because I did not want to put him in that spot.

As Gordon Lightfoot recounted in his song 'The Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald' ..."goodbye it's been good to know you" So sad but we will go on...all of us will and Hell I'm old. I just did not ever think OUR STORE or OUR KMART could go so low and still be drawing air like a carp fish thrown up on the bank.

Blessings to you that are still there and I really mean that. Bless you
