I worked for Dell for 24 years and lived through RIFs the entire time. It never ends and it never makes sense. The constant re-orgs that never actually get implemented before another new priority comes along. Employees are always blamed for the poor results and they take the fall. It's all a numbers game which no regard for performance, tenure or anything beyond a spreadsheet. Imagine if they could ever really put an org together and focus on the business what the results would look like. It's a circus - hang in for as long as you can. Life truly is better on the other side of that company.
Until Dell starts to cut the bloated management ranks nothing will improve, and no signs of that have been forthcoming. I was booted from Dell a couple of years ago, after 15 years, in a downsize/reorg that combined two groups (but kept both managers), and I've never been happier. I now work for a smaller company that is actually growing (and hiring) and has a real vision for the future. The best thing that ever happened to me was the day Dell took my badge. My future is bright, and I actually look forward to going to work ever day.
There were cuts in RR2 on two TSR teams, maybe more. I believe they were apart of the PCA org. According to one of the reps over there, they are saying the let one person from each team go. In one case, I can almost certainly guarantee it was not perfmonce based. The rep was tracking to crush his quota this quarter.
In corporate America, the last viable step to maintaining 'profits' before the great fall is to gut the workforce on the factory floor.
Heard there were some cuts in PS2 PowerVault Team
From a corporate's point of view, the number of years you have worked at a company is irrelevant to management. They paid you to do a job and that is it. It s---s I know but that is the bottle line. I have no loyalty to any company, been laid off 4 times already. Good luck.
If folks aren't able to see where the hardware or even the Software side of the business is going and lose their jobs in the reorg, shame on them. Some folks have been with Dell for 15 20 years and honestly cannot survive in another industry.
