Thread regarding Altice USA (Cablevision) layoffs

In the IBEW no contract can be valid until US THE EMPLOYEES VOTE ON IT!!!!!

I attended a meeting with THE IBEW and LISTENED to what they had to say and after DOING MY OWN RESEARCH, I found that it is ALTICE has been the ones LYING to us!!! Altice told us that you would get less with a contract, when in fact ALL OF THE UNION shops in our field are making a lot MORE then we do with BETTER benefits.....Not to mention a PENSION!!!! Remember when we had one of those!!!! Since meeting with the ibew it has opened my eyes and made me think HOW WILL I EVER BE ABLE TO RETIRE?! The changes made by this company will take $6,000 out of OUR pockets every year!!!!!!! And that is for ALL of us weather your the best or worst tech! Now after all they have SLASHED from US, they can look at me with a straight face and give me an option to move to ATS with no answers and a 10% PAY CUT!! I was not a pro or anti union guy, but after these aggressive cuts, mass layoffs and Alices track record, I can see we NEED to join!!! Do your selves a favor and DO YOUR RESERCH and GO TO A MEETING WITH THE IBEW!!! I am a long time employee and my self and a lot of us are kicking ourselves for not doing this 5 YEARS ago when we had a chance. At least we would not have been SLASHED $6,000!!!

Take a look at the cellphone your probably holding in your hand right now. Who is your provider? VZ, ATT, Sprint, TMobile? Why don't you go with the cheapest option like Tracphone, or worse Freewheel? I will tell you why. Because you are paying for a service that you expect to work, and work well! For you!

Your argument is weak. I would ask you this question:

If God forbid you ever have to go to court for something do you want to represented by a free public defender that's fresh out of law school and has no idea yet of what they are doing or a well-paid, well-educated lawyer that has years of experience?

Just because they earn a living doesn't make them bad people.

If someone is willing to represent me for free, I would question their credentials.

So it's a coincidence that the business reps make $50,000 more in an 8 year period at the same time membership numbers increase. That's more than 1/2 of the techs make, and that's just their raises. These mafia wannabes make $150k+ For what???? Not for profit because it goes to their salaries.

They have no incentive to sell us anything, we went to them. They'll be just fine without us remember that. We'll be the ones regretting it. You have no reason not to trust them. We have the most to lose so hopefully people wake up. I don't trust anything the a-- hats we work with say or do anymore. No answers and certainly no transparancy.

All very true. Step back and take a good look at the ATS email you recieved.

-from Altice-

"We have a wonderful job opportunity for you! Come join a new company (ATS) and agree to make less money with the possibility of a year-end bonus!

-Sure we just eliminated the year-end holiday bonus at Altice which is an indication that we don't like to pay bonuses but "trust us" on the ATS bonus.

-yes you were promised that employee compensation would not change for a period of one year and that was a lie but "trust us" on the ATS thing.

-we will try to sell the idea of ATS as a wonderful opportunity to start at a new company at its beginning stages when in actuality it is a way to circumvent the agreements we made with regulators when Cablevision sale was being approved

-the internet is full of NEGATIVE articles about the way Altice treats its employees and vendors both here in the U.S. and other countries as well but you should "trust us" it will be different this time

-when it comes to paying vendors. Imagine that you have provided a product or service to Altice for an agreed upon price. Then after supplying that product or providing that service it is time for you to be paid. Then you get a call from Altice saying, "Um...... we don't want to pay that much so here's less $$ than we agreed upon. If you don't like it too bad!" This is the culture of the people we are dealing with. This is the culture of the people that are asking us to "trust them"

Talking to AOMs and SUPs will get you no honest info. And honestly I don't blame lower management. They have to say what they are told to say or their a$$es will be out in street looking for a job. They have families to feed too. I honestly don't hold any grudges against them for giving us these preprogrammed responses to our questions and fears.

Guys I have spoken off the record and outside of work hours to several people in lower management that I know personally. They have all said that if it was their son or daughter they were giving advice to that they would recommend we vote "YES" to union representation.

I know the majority of FS techs are in their 20's and 30's and maybe not thinking long term at this point in their lives. I would encourage you to seek the advice of someone twice your age on this matter. It could be anybody, your parent, grandparent, aunt/uncle, your neighbor with the driveway that you help shovel snow from, that old guy that's always at the deli every morning......anybody. Trust me when I tell you that sharing advice is one of the things that older folks like to do most in this world. It is perhaps the most valuable thing on earth that you can get for free!
