A NLRB administrative law judge ordered service to be discontinued after a complaint was filed by the postal workers union. That case finally wound it's way through the system and the judge made a ruling.

Union / wage /NLRB issues aside, Staples screwed up having USPS in stores through their usual desire to do things as cheap as possible.
There was no dedicated staffing for USPS/UPS shipping. They basically just piled the extra work on the copy and print center employees. In many stores copy print is the busiest and most profitable part of the store. Expecting them to handle shipping traffic and assist customers and complete print jobs with minimal staffing was foolish.
CPC associates would then call for back up at shipping. This would pull the office supply associate (if there was even one scheduled) or a tech associate off the sales floor, sometimes for hours.
Stores are run on skeleton crews and when someone is stuck doing shipping for hours it reduces/eliminates coverage on the floor to engage customers and also prevent shoplifting, and completing tasks like filling the shelves.
Bottom line is Framingham keeps rolling out initiatives to increases traffic and sales in stores, which is great. However, if they do not provide the payroll for store teams to perform, these initiatives all fail.
It takes a judge to have staples make a good business decision. Lol. Can't make this stuff up. Now how do we calculate the amount of angry customers we will have, corporate/Stat satisfaction. 2%.
Are you serious about the power of the union? You pay morons $25 an hour to give crappy service at the post office. The union is the reason usps is losing money now for the first time
The plan was to generate foot traffic and then convert that traffic to sales.
It didn't work. People came in to use USPS and then just left. These people would then get angry because Staples expected them to buy boxes and tape, etc. "Don't you have any in the back I can use?"
The standard flat rate USPS boxes were always out of stock.
Customers also expected Staples employees to know everything about shipping. We had some idiot come in 10 minutes before closing one night with 20 packages to various addresses in Hong Kong. He did not have them addressed properly and expected the girl at the counter to just "fix them". Then he called corp the next day to complain about the service.
Like most things Staples tries the whole thing was poorly implemented. Expecting minimum wage sales associates to do the work of a $25 hr unionized postal worker in addition to their own jobs was stupid. But that's the way staples corp thinks. Just pile on the workload and leave the store to make it work, and then blame the store team when things don't work right.
SAME SHOULD BE DONE TO UPS NOTHING BUT A TIME WASTER AND RARELY DO PEOPLE BUY ANYTHING. SELL THEM STAMPS SAYS VS.....NOT ANYMORE!!!! LOL
LOL! Did they do their homework before making this move or so desperate they knew this would be the resolution and will do anything for foot traffic. Think of the money wasted in the building of the counters etc. . This company is freakin clueless!
Good!! Customers would just use the service and walk out without buying a damn thing. Corporate wouldn't even give you hours to run it. Now CPC can get back to helping out real customers and actually make money.
We lost contract customers due this...too little too late.
USPS is a private entity, they are no longer owned by The People.

Make no mistake, workers, united together, defeated the Staples/USPS deal in defense of the USPS, which belongs to We, The People!
