Thread regarding Pearson PLC layoffs

Layoffs coming for North America Higher Ed Services

This seemed to escape most people's attention just before the holidays. There is a top-down reorg affecting the NA Higher Ed Services division. Simplification is mentioned 3 times in the announcement, and that "the efficiencies it will drive, will result in jobs being impacted".

What a great way to let people know that even though they survived the 10% workforce reduction of 2016, their jobs are still not secure.

What did everyone expect? As far as US HEd goes, there was merely a shuffling of the deck in 2016, no real reorg or layoffs happened. The sales people who got "laid off" got to keep their hefty salaries and were pushed into other positions within the company. When you are down 300M in JUST US HEd, and have zero plan in place from upper mgmt who is completely CLUELESS on how to run this company, zero new products, technology that is literally hanging on by a thread, sales reps that are responsible for way too much and pretty much have zero time to sell, and other positions who get by working 15 hours a week making 100k+ with zero accountability, you would HOPE change was actually coming to save what's left of the sunk ship.

Pearson tried a "reorg" in 2013 and 2016 and both were massive failures and did absolutely nothing to help reposition the company. My bet would be on another disastrous "reorg" unless the Board gives all of upper management pink slips and starts over from scratch- which is the best option at this point. The management running US HEd is literally the worst I've ever worked for. Nepotism, "chosen ones", and "good ol boy network" at it's finest. They all protect themselves to sacrifice the lamb. It's really unbelievable any of them still have jobs. They would never be able to get upper management positions at any other company, which is why they are at Pearson.
