Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Tell Eddie What You Think

Rumor has it that Eddie is well aware of this board, and receives regular updates on the posts we're making, if not checking the site himself when he can pull away from island life. So, why not take a moment to tell them what we really think? I'll start.

Eddie: Face it, you failed at running a retail company, and you taking over as CEO was a direct result of failing to keep anybody decent at that position, and now nobody even wants the job. You've failed at being a CEO too.

Your failure to invest in store maintenance and upkeep is embarrassing, appalling and flat out negligent. Your insistence on constantly cutting positions has led to so many departments - in FLS, corporate and even your call center ops, being forced to take on more and more work to make up for layoffs/unwillingness to fill open positions with absolutely no help or relief in sight.

So many people perform multiple roles knowing that we have to be a lean, mean machine - yet directors, VP's and other executives are paid handsomely while delivering NOTHING to help improve the bottom line. These people are overworked, underpaid, stressed and at their wits' end. And you don't care one bit.

How about Leena takes a pay cut and makes a store manager's salary until we reach profitability - that is, if she legitimately wants to help SHC turn around and isn't in this for the almost $1 million salary she receives for doing zero to lead us beyond shilling your pet projects that quite frankly s--- in town halls. Relay? Stupid. Shopbolt? Stupid. Neither does anything to drive profits, and half of the company doesn't even know what these dumb ideas are.

And SYWR? Data mining is the only reason this even exists, and rolling out the horrible "associate discount points" policy just shows how much you truly don't value us. You can spin it anyway you want, enough of your employees have taken to Pebble (another absolutely stupid waste of time and money) to call out exactly how we benefit less from the new policy that it should be clear - we're not stupid, and we smelled your BS the second this garbage policy was announced.

In closing, please just sell the company to someone that actually cares about Sears and its rich, storied history and legitimately wants to turn it around, will ya? Too many good people have given their all to be a part of the "great turnaround" of Sears and Kmart, it's time to get those people the truly engaged leadership they desperately need.

We had a town hall a few weeks ago for the OBU, not one person was listening beyond the 2nd row, about 10 leaders spoke one after the other, I didn't know a single one (and I have worked here for 3 years) there is something seriously wrong with that

I began my Sears career in 1994 at corporate HQ back when Arthur Martinez was CEO. I will tell you, when Arthur held town halls everyone was so energized and pumped up .... the softer side of Sears.... we were all excited to be part of Sears. Now, look at what's happened.... the mood is so different, decades ago people were gung-ho for Sears and now most employees are disengaged or apathetic. I truly believe the end of Sears started when they sold off the Credit dept (we made a large profit there) and we had to stand alone as a retailer. Alan Lacy sold us out. That was under his watch. That made it possible for EL to buy Sears. We needed a true retailer CEO to be in charge... who did we get... people like Alwyn Lewis and the other exec that came from IBM... can't recall his name right now.... a revolving door of execs... constant changes at the top each time changing direction... meanwhile Amazon stayed on the same course and now they plain and simple beat us (and other retailers also)... we should have invested in the stores long ago.....I think EL micromanaged Sears instead of hiring a top guy and sticking with him (or her)... too many upper management changes at the top... look what the Cubs did... Tom Ricketts, now there is a great CEO... he did his homework, he hired Theo Epstein, believed in him even when things were really bad... but the Cubs stayed the course and turned things around. Rickets didn't meddle in baseball operations, he hired a true expert (Theo) and let him do his job... whereas EL micromanaged too much... that's my opinion on this situation

Thanks for keeping this zombie of a company going for this long. You may be enriching yourself and a few others but at least we all have a job for a little longer. By you dragging this liquidation out it gives all of us a chance to find another job before it all goes down the drain

You have been voted worst CEO in business, SHC has been rated as one of the worst companies to work for, SHC has been voted as one of the worst companies to do business with or to be a customer of, your sales are falling every quarter, you have ruined many peoples lives, every other CEO thinks your morals are in the toilet an do not want to have anything to do with you (even your old college roommates), your wife lives, in a different city, you won't come to corporate to face any accountability or face any criticism, you are such a coward that you wont face the employees or sharholders, instead it is a pre-recorded call or an emali. Man up, take responsibility, tell the truth and have a spine. Deuteronomy 6:5 with every person being made in the image of God so you must "love your neighbor as yourself" Love God, Love people. Judgment is coming

1vut, maybe one of the reasons is this site does not allow sharing personal info. Someone already explained that in this thread.

Why is everyone posting Anonymously? I started working for Sears in 1978 as an auto mechanic for 16 years. Transferred to the building maintenance as a QMT for 22 years. Job was eliminated March 2016. Now ex-employee after 38 years. If I could see Eddie face to face I would have no problem telling him what I think and I would like for him to know who I am.

When you sit down for dinner with your rich friends surely you must feel embarrassed? There must be a hierarchy amongst the rich and they must look down on you, no?

Where to start. You are the worst CEO in the history of retail. You are responsible for running both Sears and Kmart into the ground. You have no invested money into improving your stores, like making them more modern, fixing the leaks, the price scanners, updating the registers, etc etc. Every employee would like that. Let's forward to current day. The rollout of the "simple store" concept has been a disaster. Simple store would only work for smaller stores, but not for big box retail. Simple store is putting people out of work and whoever is left, it's doubling and tripling the already overworked workers. The measures of cost cutting has affected stores in a negative way. Cost cutting from store level doesn't really save much money because most of the leads they cut only make a little more than minimum wage. Also the way the lay-offs were done and how many people on the kmart side still haven't be able to collect on their severance falls on your feet.

The newly created HA Council is anouther attempt at adding to the workload. I guess when when you decide to eliminate the hardline leads, the HA council "volunteer" will be performing what the lead would have been doing for free.

What is next? The SYW Council? I guess they will take the place of the Softline leads on a "volunteer" basis too.

I not an employee. Consider me a customer with an MBA and 20 years experience in business. Eddie is the WORST CEO I've ever witnessed. I had to search out this board to tell anyone because I'm sad to see Sears go into the dustbin because it's run by a guy that couldn't financially engineer his way out of a wet paper bag.

You got labeled the most hated CEO in America a few months ago (see link below), you have taken what was once a great company to the verge of bankruptcy, you are ruining lives with consistent layoffs, don't you ever think 'maybe I'm not very good at this CEO stuff'?

(see:http://247wallst.com/retail/2016/11/06/sears-edward-lampert-is-the-most-hated-ceo-in-america/)

Why don't you "optimize" that 4 hundred million dollar yacht you have? The money you saved by making 130 "difficult decisions" today wouldn't even fill up Fountainhead's fuel tanks! Oh I guess the next round of layoffs will, whew! That was a close one!

Good post. However, please be careful with what you post as I've see really good threads removed from this site before. If you read the rules before they are specific about not using any threats, bad language and also respecting privacy of individuals.

I do not want to silence the discussion, but I also do not want to see good threads like this being removed due to the issues with rules they want to enforce.

You're pretty much on the nose here, but sadly I doubt that he would care about any of what you've said here even if he is aware of it. I know that I and many others stated similar views in those bogus census surveys that had us complete for a couple years a few years ago. Obviously none of it was taken to heart by anyone. As others wiser in the ways of business have said here, he's only in it to maximize his returns when everything falls apart. He does not now, nor did he ever really care about the sustainability of the company in the long run. If he did, he would not have so utterly failed to implement something resembling a rational business plan over these past years. Very few should even be capable of this level of incompetence.
