Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

The downfall of Intel correlates to the spectacular failure of TMG to deliver 14nm, 10nm and 7nm on original schedule!

For years intel delivered like clock work primarily because TMG delivered tick tock. Something happened in the past 6 to 8 years as TMG went from mutiple year process leadership to likely losing this year.

14nm continues to under deliver and impact the bottom line, yields missing targets and busting cost and profits.

10nm slip becoming a multiple year delay instead of quarter delay that will really bust margins this and next year.

7nm looking more and more like a disaster before it even becomes real. Throwing good money is t the solution, a change is required!

What happened in TMG over the past 10 years for such a collapse?

Intel continues to slip schedules and TSMC pulls ahead.

Without the manfucturing leadership the product groups have nothing to hide their conservative big wasteful die designs.

Intel lead fumbled away, good job BK and TMG!

The CEO is totally accountable for all in the company whether they have the mental capability to comprehend or not. When three successive CEOs have spent billions and a decade to fail to grow the company perhaps the problem is two fold.

One continued failure of the CEO and need for replacement.

Second the BoD is incompetent and incapable of selecting a capable candidate.

Intel is in such a state today. BK needs to go, as does most of the BoD!

To be fair to BK, the expected impending fall of Intel is not fully due to BK. Its been many years in the making. Over the past 10 years, Intel have consistently sideline technical guys and promoting folks who network, socialize, powerpoint pushers. Just go to any site whether its US sites or off shore sites, the story is the same. Technical folks get sidelined and those who network and socialize and form clans move up the ladder and turf wars everywhere. Many sites have site staff that are all socializing and move up the ladder through drinking and entertaining VPs and corporate staff. Not one is technically sound! As a leader you don't need to do the technical stuff but you need to be technically sound as Intel is a technical company! This is where BK contribute to the fall of Intel, not a leader capable of understanding the needs of tech, so is many other SVPs, VPs, Directors, senior managers across all Intel sites. Things may only change if Ryzen or ARM hits Intel really hard and causes the revenue to drop a large amount and Intel stock price take a nose dive. Otherwise it will be party and drinking as usual.

A bean counter running what was once America's crown jewel in technology and manufacturing, yeah like he has a clue beyond firing another thousand managers, not that there aren't a thousand managers in TMG that don't deserve it, LOL

The ARMy virtuous cycle of volume and software was pretty obvious to most except some arrogant x86 executives. What is most ironic the same volume and virtuous cycle was used by intel the previous decade by the same executives to conquer all. You'd think they would have realized what they were against attacking tablet, mobile, and other markets with x86. Intel executives should have pulled out the stops and redirected their best process and design people to attack the new markets with their deep pockets and process advantage, but I saw first hand how poisoned all their thoughts were by x86. Destined for continued and epic failures.

That same arrogance about x86 and what the market wants versus needs also permeates the process definition. The team is so arrogant in knowning what the customers wants versus listen and provide the customers with what they want.

The epic failure couldn't happen to a better bunch of customer oriented people in the world.

Downfall is due to two separate factors. PC decline and trouble with process node are two different things.

First one is an external factor which incompetent top management and market strategists could not see.

Process node issues are due to overconfidence and poor management practices which slowly bled all talent that matters. There are not enough skilled engineers left. Other engineers are good at taking credit for work done by others. Too many talkers and not enough doers.

When the culture of a company or organization changes from creative, valued, true development plans, good benefits and respect to - firing white guys, catering to minorities and transgender over innovation, and instilling a total dog eat dog, fearful, backstabbing mentality is it any wonder the employees are just doing the minimum at work? Complete fear in a professional environment breeds stagnation. The culture at Intel is damaged beyond repair. Everyone I talked to inside echo's this.
