Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Thumbs Up for SHC (workers that is)

I come to this board's homepage, Sears isn't mentioned as being one of the active threads but if you look at recent posts, SHC is well represented. Shows that there a lot of people who care about their workplace.

Although wasted & not appreciated at SHC, it gives me hope for us all.

It's sad seeing this company fall off like it has. I used to work for the Cupertino, CA Sears store from July 2005 - January 2015 (I had to move to Pittsburgh, PA - wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy/hated person). The Cupertino store closed down in September 2015. Lots of memories with a mix of good and bad. Though I learned a lot when it came to how to treat your employees if your a manager or how not to talk to people. I was there for all the different changes, good and bad, during those 9+ years.

I don't want to see the company go under, but it's going to happen and it's unfortunate for the employees, vendors, drivers, warehouse workers, shopping malls and even the remaining customers. Eventually all the bad decisions and mismanagement we have read about on this board or dealt with in person catch up and the bill comes due.

Hopefully the fall of Sears/KMart will be a case study for everyone. I'm sure they'll be a documentary or two or a book about this companies fall.

Good luck to anyone toughing it out and sticking around until the end.

We do it all for Eddie. We engage our members for Eddie. We sell those PAs for Eddie. We get those credit apps and get excited for 5-3-2-1...all for Eddie.

It's all for no one else than Eddie...

I work in a auto center. We couldn't care less about sears, but we take pride in our work. We don't represent sears, we represent our shop and that's how we look at it.

Most of the conversation between employees all day long is about how long before they tell us our store is closing. Moral is all but gone along with smiles for the customer. While checking them out we are repeatedly asked if our store is closing. We all used to make excuses and paint a bright picture for the customer. But now we all just speak our minds and tell them that while we are not on a closing list now, it's only a matter of time before it happens.

I remember when I first started years ago. The HR lady who was doing my groups orientation told us about her kenmore washing machine that was going on 30 years old. She couldn't say enough nice things about sears. Then we did some computer training (anyone remember the POS keyboard that hooked up to a PC for training). There was a segment that talked about Sears customers and how they had been shopping for life and how we wanted to keep them from cradle to grave. I thought wow this company must be the real thing. Then as years went by I learned the awful truth. Kmart came along, then sears grand/essentials (a concept that had a chance before eddy ruinined it) I could go on for ever. I moved around the country a few times before buying a house, even worked both formats. In the end Kmart laid me off 4 weeks ago and I am never going back again.

I cared years ago and I actually tried really hard to help customers. I stopped carrying little by little as things got worse. I also stopped trying to defend SHC which i did in the beginning. It became clear to me that any ligitimit company would not need defending. I will say that I care about many my coworkers especially those who have been doing it for years and are too old to start over, it brakes my heart to see how they are treated

P.S. I wish Sears would die soon too.

I read these threads as caring about the work environment, what was, what could have been, the customers, the hard work put in.

Not the corporation. In my case that means upper level management too. That PR guy & the spokeswoman (trying not to use names here) are the worst & ought to be ashamed of themselves and their paychecks. The CEO is crazy like a fox but those who support him are just as bad. Not amount of money would be enough to do what they do.

I guess you have not actually read all the post. Few if any care about SHC. Some just don't really want to lose their job and the rest actually hate Sears and wish it would just die soon.
