Thread regarding Sears layoffs

The Saga of the 5321 Pens and Buttons and Brochures

Someone posted a few days back regarding the lack of pens that can can be found at Sears. That has always been a true story although Auto protects their pens well. Two weeks ago we received a small shipment of 5321 pens and buttons for Auto. I handed out a few pens to the appliance guys who eagerly took them. No one cared about the buttons although I wear one as an inside joke and it already rusty and discolored. That is quality for you.

Sometime last week I was down in the office looking for the elusive money bag that you are supposed to get each day and noticed the only MCA unpacking a big bag of pens and buttons. I immediately wanted to steal that whole bag of pens but they somehow were set out in front of the FLS manager's office so for several days I slowly "stole" some pens. Today, I noticed the bag of pens had been hit pretty hard so and that the FLS manager was preoccupied so I took the rest of the bag and one button.

This is how it has to be I guess because a some of the pens don't work to start with and they have all this little rubber tip that serves no purpose. We are auto so we look at stuff like that an modify it by removing that and throwing it away. Or you can do the cigarette lighter flame trick on the ball tip to see if it frees it up. I hate cheap pens.

Then all of the brochures. I have one highlighted on my counter where is says that if you purchase from a restaurant that is located inside a bakery that you will only get 1% in points instead of 3%. Some associates thought I was joking so I showed it to them. It is in that fine print about halfway down. What is the reasoning behind that exclusion?

Send us some pens that work, buttons that don't rust and credit card offers that might make sense or shut the yapper up.

Seriously?

I'm not surprised to find out 50k aren't on pebble. Although with store closures and layoffs, there has got to be fewer folks that last year's 10k filing had listed.

Do the people on here who currently work for Sears or KMart have time for pebble? I don't and even if I were interested I don't have a way to access it frequently at work. I barely had time to register for it before it was noted that I should be doing other things.

according to the last 10-k (Jan 2016) shld had 178,000 bodies employed - not everyone needs to be registered and/or kept on the rolls if dismissed

180k? As of current there are ~132.5k people registered to Pebble. Are there really 50k more people in the shadows?

Enjoyed the lack of pens story. the 180K people who work at SHLD will be better off and more prosperous at other jobs. Don't feel sorry for them. They, the customers and suppliers will be in a better lace without Sears.

I thought about that too. Bringing a bunch of pens in. I would try to guard my personal pen which is a level of craziness I shouldn't have to face for a minimum wage job. I just kept it in my plastic purse. The controversial plastic purse that was only sometimes ok. Other times you were expected to leave your valuables such as id & any credit card in that unsecured locker room where people stole. Good times.

I am sure it did - but the real issues at Sears holdings are about the loss of 180,000 jobs - yet some people are worried about pens.

My favorite part of the fine print is that you receive 1% and not 5% for buying gas at grocery stores, warehousesx whole sale clubs, convenient stores and on fuel not intended for automobiles. After reading that I was hard pressed to think of a gas station that didn't fall in that criteria. I finally thought of two. With restrictions like that there are going to be a lot of upset customers wanting their 5% for their fill up but only getting 1% becouse they went to their local gas station that also sells drinks and snacks.

Lack of pens has always been a problem at my store as well. It was so frustrating because you would be working with a customer and would have nothing to write down an order number with or any other info they may have wanted. Many times I had to leave the customer standing around waiting while I tried to hunt down a pen. None at the registers or the hub office, it was ridiculous. If I brought my own it would get scooped up and would disappear if I put it down for a second. I had thought about buying a couple of bags of pens to scatter in the drawers at the registers and computer kiosks and then decided not too. Sears is so cheap and on principle I was not going to supply the store with pens from my own wallet. So, I let the customer wait while I set off to locate a pen.

The restaurant inside a bakery is Panera, California Pizza Kitchen and some more. Any restaurant that sells baked goods is considered a bakery first then a restaurant.

If the quality of pens and buttons is all you have to worry about then you are doing ok....
