Trump should make improvements to H1B. People here are being taken advantage of software companies through H1b. My colleague is paid only $67,000 per year and employer wont let him get back to india. Out of his pay, remove 30% tax. remaining amount = 47000. remove $1800/month Studio bed (1bed apt starts at $2000), Health insurance is at least 120 /month. car insurance = 100/month, Lets say car loan = 400. Groceries = 200/ month, Petrol = 1000. Remaining amount per annum = 15000. If he goes for any trips, hotels, restaurants then even that amoun the will not be able to save. Is it really worth it?

15 years ago, we would have never had this conversation. But since then, with the abundance of cheap technical labor flooding into the country from abroad, everybody is now hurting. In addition to the low wages, we are seeing quality issues showing up in the hands of the customer, and no real earth shattering advancements coming out of R&D. The dog days of globalized semi-commodities may be upon us.
Instead of talent being rewarded, the reward is determined by demand Vs supply. Is it good? Is it bad? Who is impacted positively? Who is impacted negatively?
I never get that "salaries that non H1Bs ask for" part. What are those non H1Bs doing right now? I mean, that Indian guy earns 67k. Is there some American with the same skill level who would have asked for 90k, but who didn't get the job because the Indian was cheaper, and the American is now unemployed?
The conclusion would be that there are Americans who prefer being unemployed over earning 67k?
Or did that American find a job somewhere else where he actually does earn the 90k? That would then confirm that there are really more jobs than engineers in the US.

But maybe they will or have to leave the US soon anyway. Then European companies are very happy to employ them.
The problem is that in the long run, it will be hard to compete for US companies if they have to be based locally and pay the salaries Non-H1Bs ask for. All of this will make Asian goods more successful.
Where is he located? What is his level of experience? Kinda pointless to discuss about this without those bits of information.
Actually that's pretty close to what my reality was. Some people at Intel make a lot of money, but there are tons who make barely regional par, and they are citizens not visa people.
