Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Sad to Leave

I work in the pharmacy. I know all of my customers by name. We are always short staffed and the job is more stressful than the store manager realizes. I pull 10 hour shifts with no breaks and a 15 min lunch. No one knows anything about the pharmacy. They just look at the balance sheet and think, "Wow, we cut hours and sales are still climbing. Success!" The only reason for that is my work ethic won't allow me to let tasks go uncompleted. Like others have posted, I come in early and work off the clock when I have to, because I don't have it in me to do a half-a-- job. Meanwhile, I'm growing increasingly miserable at work. My significant other has to listen to my daily rants. I recently gave my 2 weeks notice. The store manager, a man who once stood on a pedestal and didn't seem to give a crap about me or my department, is now basically on his knees asking what he has to do to get me to stay. It's sad. I feel terrible that the pharmacy will suffer after my departure. A lot of the store employees just stare at me when I walk through the store as if they're silently thinking, "There's the traitor." The stock is at 5 dollars a share!!! All of these people are clueless. They try to offer me raises and short term benefits to abandon my new, more stable job offer. I don't have the heart to tell them it's now or never. Maybe ignorance is bliss. I wish I was blind to the obvious signs of a struggling retailer. I wish I could go on each day humming a tune and being none the wiser.

RUN!!! Don't walk, and especially, DON'T look back. Staying an extra few months isn't going to help your future opportunities

You will build relationships with your new customers if you're staying in retail pharmacy. Sometimes you just have to let go & do what's right for you & your family. Part of the reason for any static you are getting at KMart is that it makes people question their own situation and thus they are projecting their discomfort onto you. But as harsh as it sounds, they won't be there to pay your bills later. So leap at this new opportunity, you've earned it.

I can't even imagine how this company could keep a pharmacy up to PDMA standards.

With the stock price, the outdated equipment, the company wide outages....

You made the right choice.

Good luck to you.

Everyone in the pharmacy is licensed or certified in some way. It's pretty difficult replacing them. You're right, you can't throw someone off the floor into the pharmacy unless all they're doing is cashiering....which isn't too useful.

Go with a clear conscience. And good for you!

I'm not familiar with the requirements for pharmacy workers, but I trust that there has to be at least some level of education or certification required and that your store can't just throw any random person from the sales floor at the position as every store is doing with all the other important positions they sacked? I can't imagine how disastrous that could end up being for whatever few customers still frequent this company's pharmacies if so.
