The 1 billion fee is reduced by approximately 1/3 rd. Tax payers will foot that bill. The cost of this deal was about 1.8 billion according to the LA Times article. The intrinsic costs are far greater. This was a high risk venture with little chance for success. The political climate and opposition were not clearly understood by Aetna.

boy was I right. merger not going thru. I said they were too greedy. only think about their bonuses not their employees. I guess more layoffs coming. upper management would rather lay you off instead of taking a cut in pay themselves. the 1 million that they have to pay humana has to come from somewhere and also what they have to pay molina . allI can say is get ready for the other foot to falll i

Aetna and Humana will not merge together to become one. The Trump administration is focused on creating competition in the insurance industry. I would expect to see further downsizing of staff as this industry moves to be competitive and stay profitable. I would not be surprised if the leadership teams change in the near future.
