Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

The axe swings again

Got the traditional "Business Update" email, the update being that I'm getting RIF'd as of Feb 22nd. Not unexpected as the EMC good old boys are now running the show on channel and storage side of the house, they'll use this as an opportunity to get rid of as many Dell people in their org charts as they can. You can bet there WON'T be any legacy EMC folks in those orgs getting cut now or in the future.

The fun is just beginning, look for EMC to push even harder for killing off legacy dell storage products and to consolidate their team with further reductions of Dell employees wherever possible. There will undoubtedly be another house cleaning at the half year mark in August, anyone on a PiP or with poor attainment will be rewarded with an exit package if not fired outright.

I wish them luck, they're going to need it, the EMC slide in sales will only accelerate and likely take Dell as a whole down with it. Frankly Mr dell should have steered clear of EMC and acquired Nutanix, wouldn't be carrying the roughly $75 billion debt from going private and buying EMC that is now hanging over their heads with declining sales on both server and storage side. The future is hyperconverged and software defined, EMC products are dinosaurs and Dell will pay dearly for not realizing that until it's too late.

It's an unfair comparison. I am Dell storage employee. Dell storage is Equallogic, Compellent and MD. Total is 800 plus employees, where as EMC storage is 9000 plus employees.

I admit from 2014 we at Dell are doing nothing , especially at Nashua, NH other then collecting pay, so does most of work force from EMC.

There are layoffs across the board.

My advice is, some one from true Dell (legacy, loyal Dell executive should visit sites, especially NDC and Hopkinton and see how these sites are run.)

NDC is worst with no work for past 3 years. So is EMC with not enough work.

I agree EMC was much Stronger before Tucci & Co sold its employees down the river.

Looking at the amount of people laid off since October 2015, believe me EMC people are being hit and hit hard.

One Thursday in January 2016 there was 136 EMC staff being layed off, the Friday there was 34, and this was a trend that was going on every work day until recent times.

So speaking to a colleague of mine that was working in dell at the time he was seeing no dell employees being let go, so now that the deal is closed and both sides have people being cut, don't be foolish thinking it is more Dell people.

Dell didn't buy EMC for the storage, they bought them to get to VMware. EMC in 2015 was the pinnacle year. 2016 saw declines way more drastic. XtremIO while sales were good had it's own problems with support and failures. VMAX-f is not selling as well as expected and Unity pricing is not great. Unity is not faster than VNX. Unity people say Deduplication is not important and then when they have to try and sell the XtremIO is gets really messy. Good luck everyone.

Really? EMC was 4billion+ profitable in 2015...Dell lost 500 million...EMC s sales force is the best in the industry...Maybe Dell will make some money now.

EMC was a solid company before? Before what? HAHAHAH, are you talking before the turn of the century like someone else above said? I don't know where you have been but I can assure you that anyone paying attention knows the only solid thing at EMC "before" is that good ole boy network which has been alive and well since at least the turn of the century and is why there has never been a new, innovative, revolutionary idea from EMC since. Having to layoff employees to be profitable, can only sustain a company so long. Having to depend on VMWare to be profitable, can only sustain a company so long. Having to skew metrics and manipulate revenue recognition and bring in semi-trucks in order to hide warranty equipment (talking TRUCKLOADS), can only sustain a company so long. EMC was done a long time ago, the only creative, revolutionary, innovative ideas that came from them since the turn of the century have been the schemes and shenanigans they come up with to appear profitable and let's not forget most of the incompetent, ineffective, useless, pointless, overpaid, expense-account-abusing, dishonest, unethical managers (and all their friends and relatives who work there) make obscene amounts of money. It is widely known that business decisions have been made which were incredibly detrimental to EMC and their customers but because certain executives and managers personally profited, they went forward anyway and customer service has never recovered. In fact, an award was given to one executive responsible for a recent and epic failure lol (you cannot make this stuff up). This is by far the shadiest, dirtiest, sleaziest bunch of executives and managers in one organization without question -- from the top down.

Shaky, yeah, mainly due to the self important EMC execs that think they're the greatest thing that ever happened to the tech industry. EMC has the most antiquated storage technology on the market. Unity is the same basic foundation as the Clarrion they bought from DG back at the turn of the century, only thing they've managed to do is update to a slightly more modern OS and layer yet more software on top of the same tired old hardware architecture to try and make it appear new and modern. VNX3 anyone?

The ONLY thing that was keeping EMC afloat was VMWare, without that the useless execs would all be out of a job and out on the golf course where they want to be anyway, make the grunts do their work for them until they're burn't out and then toss em for a fresh set, rinse, repeat.

And yes I once worked at the Evil Machine Company myself, worst 2 1/2 slave driven, back stabbing, years of my career

I agree Dell should never have bought EMC.

EMC was better off.

And there are more legacy EMC people being let go than DELL.

SO yea EMC was a solid company before if Dell was I don't know but they are both shaky now.
