I've made it through all of these layoffs. Now I found a job I've been searching for. Completely different from oil & gas. Matches well with my intellectual interests, preferred location for me and family, preferred business type & work environment, plenty of vacation time (more than 6w). Plenty of job security, plenty. One thing though is the pay is half of what I earn at SLB. We can make it as a family but just no longer will be able to enjoy having plenty of money go into savings each month.

Don't quit ask for enhanced package they will bite your hand off and you leave with a bonus to start your new happier life
If you are making good money without significant management role and powerful friends, you will be on the chop-chop list sooner or later. It's just a matter of time.
I did it. Left about a year ago, voluntarily. I make less money but we paid some things off that have made it doable. We are all much happier. I am home more, less stressed, and I love my new job.
Funny when I gave me notice that I was leaving my boss tried to tell me I'd be the last one to go and I told him to his face that I didn't believe that for a minute.
SLB is one of the best companies out there, stay with us...
You have to decide what is a priority for your family. Perhaps it's more $$$$, which comes at the typical cost of working for SLB (zero work-life balance, and kiving with the constant threat if being axed if quarterly earnings are off by penny). But perhaps your family is ok with less money.... but an overall better "family life".
Can you buy happiness? Job security? Your sanity? Take the job and don't look back. They will recognize you're talents and eventually you'll make more money. Maybe not as much, but enough to meet your family's needs. Trust me, you'll be glad you did. Good luck.
OP, maybe I can help you on that. I thought I could make it, so I stayed in SLB for my family. My kids loved their schools and my wife enjoyed what the city offered. Personally for me, I was making enough money to enjoy life, golf, and good family vacation. But eventually, I got the boot. The first couple of months... It was the most agonizing moment for both me and my family. I'd never have that kind of experience again, and I hope. I ended up getting a job paying significantly less than what I was making at SLB, but it has been much better than sh--ty experience in SLB especially in the past two years. I still have some bitter taste left in my mouth, but I guess we all have to deal with what our life throws at us.
SLB is losing its color, value, and most importantly good people. Why would work for this sh--ty company anymore?
Do it and don't look back. You won't regret it. I know I certainly don't miss the bs.
Awesome. Many more to follow your lead beginning tomorrow.
Do it...for your own sanity. This company is a plane on a crash course.
