Thread regarding Seagate Technology Inc. layoffs

Math Question

Who can solve the math quiz? It's loaded with dark humour. Here is the problem setup.

  • Company is Seagate

  • Company is not averse to laying off staffers, especially if they are high performing and do not kiss buttt

  • Assume 30,000 total employees at end of 2016

  • Assume a 25% yearly layoff of staff that happens every January

  • Each layoff number of people is rounded to the nearest integer

Question:

1) In what year will the staff population dip below 1000 people?

2) In what year will the staff population dip below 100 people?

3) In what year will the staff population dip below 10 people?

4) In what year will the staff population dip below 1 person?

5) Who will that person be? (can be derived from the info given)

At least one of questions above has no answer. Have at it!

actually the question is legit along with the answer....

the life of HDD in some form is until 2050 if you actually solve it...which actually might be correct...hahaha...and at that time there will be 2 people...and it can never be under 2 person...so no 4 has no answer...and there will be 2 people left who will kiss each others a-- and they will be happy ever after... :D

Seagate won't disappear, they just need to continue to shrink the company as SSDs take over traditional HDD markets, and as they run out of options to improve the technology (think HAMR finally dying). There are still tape drive companies out there making money, but they're a lot smaller than they used to be.

Seagate will be around for a while, just like many companies goes through tough times and rough roads.

Seagate and its supporting Companies (Vendor) feed many mouths, so I hope nothing bad happen to them.
