Did you guys experience this kind of situation ? You have the required experience for the opening but cannot clear the interview. Is it problem with Intel experience ? The experience you get at Intel is useless in outside world ? I am a FPGA engineer - even I am facing the same situation. Portland market is bad in general. My wife interviewed with several Bay Area companies but no offer yet :(

At small companies like my new employer there is little room for dead weight, marginal performers, or social deviants. At intel there was much opportunity for all and more, but that is true for any large company.
The real issue for people looking is are you going to be able to impress and show the real you, or are you trying to hide the real you. Better get practicing if you are the second 😉
I interview many people for jobs at my EDA company, and I have done consulting work on Intel projects.
A relatively small portion ( maybe 20%) of the Intel people I come across are technically savvy. They make the decisions, drive the flows and projects. Many of the rest are simply users and beneficiaries of that 20%, they have little or no idea about underlying technology, they simply push the buttons.

Some skills from intel are still valued by other companies, if you doubt get offers it will be obvious you don't have them desired skills!
Intel experience isn't blacklisting everyone. The guy that hired me was pretty impressed.
Intel people looking for work this year have been blacklisted, even in Bay Area. I have confirmed this from hiring managers.

Something must be wrong with your wife's interviewing skills or her real skills! Technical female of any competence should be hot anywhere even in Portland.
I am an over the hill guy with 20 years of Intel experience and got offers from ever company I interviewed but I wasn't no dead wood, just a BK ACT mistake.. his loss my and my new companies gain.
@nqg - Plenty of women (as well as everybody else) were laid off in ACT due to stupid criteria and subjective Focal results. Having said that, I concur that's pretty weird she can't find a job in Bay Area (lots of companies looking for female diversity). Maybe she's not applying to the right kind of job wrt her background?
Your wife should be safe. I rarely see women get laid off. You gotta maintain the diversity. Cheers.
