Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Anything new on this? Has anyone received a second letter by FedEx as I have received?

I received a similar letter. It took several phone calls before someone could figure out what happened. They cashed out my sabbatical and unused vacation twice. The letter mentioned that they would work out a repayment plan if you need it. I decided it was best to pay them back.

Not sure what their recourse is if you don't pay it back. They might be able to hold back the annual bonus next January that was part of the ERP severance package.

Guys. I am really sorry many of you are having a hard time in Oregon. If you are looking for a job, there is one company you can also look at.

Garment International. I forget exactly where in Oregon they are, so you might need to relocate out of the portland area. But they are a very solid company and very well run. Good luck.

I went to that LHH career service for awhile but at least in Oregon, there was nothing for me. I never even got an interview. Oregon is horrible for older, mid-level, nontechnical employees. I guess I was really lucky to be at Intel all those years. Now my luck has certainly run out. The LHH counselors told me they thought most of the Oregon people were going to have to leave the area to get anything. There is nothing in the Intel wage scale of employer in the Hillsboro/Beaverton area at all. Some people think they can go to Nike. The don't do chips, people! And, some ex-Intel folks I know who took contract gigs there in desperation tell me if you don't like foreigners or contractors, you won't like Nike. They rely very heavily on those. Meanwhile, Intel is still hiring briskly I'm told, just all at more junior levels. I heard there were a couple of very senior and talented people who took ERP that Intel has made 'special deals' with to stay but I don't have that as a fact, just rumor. If you are an ordinary, average employee and you got caught by VSP or ISP, I think you are out of luck in Oregon. My colleagues in the bay area and in Seattle are having much better luck. But again, you need to have hard skills, and up to date. There is a tendency at Intel to assume you will be there forever and so you get niched into Intel-specific skills that don't play outside of those walls.

@1obw I am in the same boat, I am in Oregon. The jobs here are pathetic. You either go into construction, or health care. To those who are about the get ISP - ACT 2017, you better save like it is your last paycheck, because it will be in Oregon. Most unfriendly business place in the USA.

@KyUUArT-1hxh. Now I'm really scared to death. I have next to nothing left of my severance, no new job (just a part time one at only $25 an hour, no benefits), and still have house, student loans, car and kids to pay for. I have no idea what I do in best case, and can't imagine what I would do if Intel demanded the money back.

Guys- this is not a SCAM, I got a fedex and e-mail directly from Intel collections. Seems like no one else in this forum received the letters, I am not even sure Intel is accurate so they will need to prove beyond reasonable doubt there was in fact an overpayment. If I decide to pay back, it'll have to be in low monthly payments as I am still not working FT and already used up most of the severance.

It's a ripoff. Don't worry about it.

Those who were leaving Intel with a RESIGNATION (5 months advance notice including HR which was aware) anyway but ended up unfairly collecting a PACKAGE - must pay back 100% of it. I dare Intel to go start collections on those kind of dishonest and devious Intel ex-employees.

The law is in "your" favor unlike the Intel lawyer below is telling you. You do not owe Intel anything. Intel gave you a very nice gift. You are not legally required to respond.

The overpayment was over $30k. yes, I care about my credit and don't want it ruined either.

I doubt they will sue. They will let the collection agency deal with it. You should also look into seeing whether this will affect your credit? If you don't care either way, I wouldn't payback a dime to them.

I like your answer. that's my thinking. wondering if Intel will sue to get the overpayment back ( not even sure the overpayment claim is accurate)
