Pearson PLC Layoffs 2017

I needed to vent a bit as there are many rumors about layoffs in London.

I am over 50 and was laid off in March after 13 years and a very strong track record.

Layoffs are being executed now and make no sense whatsoever. Good thing though the platforms are trash and the leadership tanked the business 3 billion last year

I was 55 yo and with Pearson - USA (formly Harcourt) for almost 16 yrs when I received my walking papers in the 1st "big layoff" of 2014. I too, thought of the age thing, but those spared were older than me... they were there longer, plus Pearson had invested more in them. It's brutal out there!... I have yet to find a job - there Just isn't any demand for seasoned career women... 401k is getting low, especially with the early withdrawal penalty.

Well I'm neither in London nor is it 2017 yet, but got my notice on Tuesday after nine years with the company. I'd be very curious to know how many of those being axed in this latest round are over 40 because myself and three others I know were sacked are all in that range or older. Sure, I'm getting a severance package and have other opportunities, but it's as if Fallon is hell-bent on draining the company of anyone associated with Marjorie's tenure, people who had worked for years in education and KNOW the customers they serve and their needs in the classroom. Available positions are being filled by MBA types with no relevant experience in publishing generally and education specifically.
