Trump is going to limit or cancel H1Bs. If you disagree, then give your job to an H1B to show your support!

As an independent Asian american (non Indian/Chinese origin), this is my humble observation based on time i spend working with open source products/community. Most of the open source products / projects are initiated and mostly contributed by the white Americans. Although this is changing i still see the trend in most of the open source projects such as openstack/containers etc.. Asians are mostly focused on the financial aspects of the projects/products and therefore fair bit of entrepreneurs and startups.

When it comes to who works hard and who doesn't, it is a mix bag and mostly depends on the individual.

One thing conveniently ignored by H1 proponents is that the vast majority of those visas go to off-shoring companies. They use them to bring people into the US to be trained to perform roles previously undertaken by US workers but being moved to an off-shore provider outside the country. That was never the intent of the program.

I guess people are blaming wrong reasons. H1/L1 alone isnot the only reason US citizens are losing the jobs. Do you know how many IT/Technology Jobs have outsourced jobs to India/Mexico/China/Philippines. Restricting H1/L1 Might reduce legal immigration but globalization is irreversible. Trump cannot do anything. MNCs have more Revenue coming out of US. Cisco makes more than 75% of its revenue outside US and with tough market conditions , they will outsource or move jobs to places like Krakow, Mexico, Bangalore. So this is happening with every IT company. US is not center of universe anymore. yes, Trump should prosecute H1/L1 Visa Abuses to protect US citizens from losing jobs. But Total Banning of H1/L1 will only increase outsourcing. Please note Automation is killing lot of jobs. Its effect is already felt in Manufacturing and now in IT/Technology companies. you don't need to 10 people to do same job if automation can do routine jobs. Jobs will be scarce and only Niche skills will have demand. Regular jobs will be Automated like testing, Monitoring, operations & management and support.

There is rampant abuse of the H1B system by Cisco and similar companies. This is not the fault of the H1B holders. They are exploited, indentured, captive, servants beholden to their overlord employers who have total control over their ability to remain in the US.

The solution to the exploitation, low wages, and labor market distortion of compensation for skilled workers is to make H1Bs completely portable. This completely removes an employer's ability to exploit by ending indenturing and allowing market forces to regulate the labor supply.

52% of S&P 500 profits are generated overseas. OK, lets play hardball with our trade partners, have fun and watch that 401K melt down...

Oh, on #H1B - I have no problem with it - just open it up to everyone globally and pay the market price - India cannot hog 80% of the allocation pool and pay peanut wages - f--- that, bring in $200K+ PhDs from Heidelberg and Tel Aviv, not fake degree 60K testers.

And, yes, dont forget to auction to the highest bidder every single visa allocation...

@KtvWVIB-2pec: Let's see. DJT has already walked back or softened his stance on several other Immigration issues. So highly unlikely. He just talk the talk; has no ability to walk the talk.

My American friends, DJ Trump has $100s Millions invested in India's real estate. This dude is openly meeting his Indian business partners in Trump Tower. For him, his business is above the country. So dont be under an illusion that he will shutdown H1B program and throw Indians out of this country. Moreover, he will need Congressional approval to boot specific racial group out which is not happening ever. Dont forget Nikky Haley, Bobby Jindal are some of the powerful Indians among Republicans and all those Indian Millionaires who donated to Trump campaign. You should rather worry about keeping your country intact.

@KtvWVIB-1llg: you are too stupid to compete so please go back to your $10/hr janitor job. You deserve to be there.

Kicking out Masters and Phd's in favour of American high school dropouts? Are you for real? I've worked with some talanted and some terrible Engineers from India during my 9 years at Cisco. The ratio must be conservatively be 1:50 though. Some of the guys I've encountered must have picked their degrees up off the street and this is the 'talent' Cisco is banking on to make the company great again? Give me a break!

Actually no. Kick out h1b's and hire back the experienced folks without h1b's that Cisco and others let go because they were either deemed to old or too expensive. Yes very Willing to give that a try and bet company success on it.

I think it might have already been said here, but H1B visas were intended to allow patrons outside of the US with very specialized skills into the coutry to fill positions that corporations such as Cisco struggled to fill from the US labour pool. That system has obviously been abused and instead is now seen as a ticket for cheap labour from India and China. Labour that can only work for you and nobody else. Labour that can't raise a fuss for fear of losing their job and having to go home. Cisco owns their a$$es. Of course it's not just Cisco abusing the system but this is a Cisco forum afterall. We'll have to wait and see what Mr Trump does to give these jobs to deserving Americans who are well capable of executing all of these "specialized" skills. And yes, that means playing them an American wage, not an Asian one.

WOW! I am appalled at the comments made by Pro-Trump trolls here. Racist, Xenophobic, full of hatred. Just remember this. Trade is a two way street. If you want Chinese and Indians out of this country then America is out of China and India, plain and simple. Just as an example, from Boeing, Cisco, Amazon, US defence industry down to Starbucks, McDonalds, all US companies make $10s billions each year from India and several more from China and that supports millions of jobs in the US. Americans have already lost their trusted partners, Europeans. This joker president is killing the US partners in Asia-Pacific and North America - Canada and Mexico. Booting Indians and Chinese out of this country would be the last nail in the coffin for American supremacy in the world. China has already taken over America as the largest economy in terms of GDP. So sure, kick out less than 1% of the total labor in the US work force i.e. H1B/foreign tech workers and make 10+% of the work force sit home living on food stamps. Good luck America. And thank you for electing Trump. That has just ensured that this would indeed be an Asian Century.

Cisco got b--ch slapped by the government in the past for abusing the H1B system. As a result engineering opened / grew sites in 3rd world cesspools and moved development there. When you have senior management stating that they can hire 3 - 4 engineers in India for the price of a US engineer then the writing is on the wall.

If this country survived the last 4 years with the current empty suit in Washington, the next 4 can't be any worse.

Good luck getting a green card that's just another form of paying the man on the side and nothing in return no green cards just payments to the union.

There are only two things he could make to really change something in IT - halt the H1B program altogether, and remove immigration categories EB2 (except for NIW) and EB3. He will do neither of them. He's in the pocket of those who don't want any changes.

H1 and L1 have been misused and lost the original intent. now its just labour cost arbitrage than specialized skills. and employers love feeding them into the never ending Green card pipeline that is so backed up due to per-country quotas, people often spend 10 years in limbo - with few if any pay raises or role changes possible and need to stick with the employer .... hence employers love the "system"

in a way its just a refined and polished form of the "Khalifa" system in some arabian kingdoms where the employer takes away the workers passport and has a lot of power over the hapless person.

Airlines tickets expected to rise from all the H1 exodus people are leaving by the thousands. I know it's not reported on the news but people are going back to their home land. New Jersey, Austin, and Chicago were the first to report this trend California and New York to follow.

H1B holders or anyone who has started processing their green cards are the american job stealers.

Trump's legal immigration reform to serve the best interests of America and its workers, keeping immigration levels within historic norms. That will significantly limit H1B visas & Green cards issued to these job stealers. I would love to see the President Trump in action & eagerly waiting for Jan 28th.

Also disagree. You my friend, bought into the middle-america, coal miner bu11sh1t Trump fed you during the campaign. That was targeted to the disenfranchised not corporate America where his heart lies.

Corporate America needs H1Bs to keep their overhead down. Once that is explained to the Donald (because he is stupid and it has nothing to do with Real Estate), this will be off the table.

@dra so you prefer H1Bs over Americans? H1B is the tool used by companies to keep wages down. Show me an H1B position and I will give you list of Americans with the skill set for that job.
