Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Intel is laying off a major portion of its wearables group https://techcrunch.com/2016/11/18/intel-layoffs/

No big surprises here except for the Intel Board has not removed idiot BK... How long can a company linger in failure before executives pay the price and are told to leave. If I remember correctly, Intel paid nearly 100 million for Basis watches and sold about 25 of these...

Here is a quote from the article:

In June 2015, Intel picked up Recon, makers of wearable heads-up displays for cyclists, snowboarders and the like. Here’s what Recon co-founder, Dan Eisenhardt had to say at the time:

Intel is an ideal partner for Recon. Intel’s CEO, Brian Krzanich, made his commitment to wearable technology very clear shortly after assuming his current role in 2013. He reaffirmed that commitment in his keynote speech at the Consumer Electronics Show this January. Brian and his team, including New Technology Group head Josh Walden, share our vision for the potential of smart eyewear in the consumer and enterprise markets, and this deal reflects that shared vision.

Is anyone surprised by this?

Seems like BKs legacy is always chasing the latest fad. How many have come and gone... this isn't leadership led transformation of a company in trouble. This is a a CEO way over his head grasping at every hot thing he reads and trying to make it his own. Sadly he can't comprehend most so how can he judge their merits? So the outcome of failure after failure isn't a surprise.

Sad the BOD can't figur it out , and most sad for the many young and hard working engineers who's career and life have or will go down the drain because of his outrageous missmanement!

This is what happens when innovation consists of buying startups. Rich man wannabe. Sad part is, Intel could have done better as a VC company. Opportunity was there and they had the money, just not the stones.

BK is chasing fads.

Too bad he can't innovate and have others chase Intel. It's sad to see this tech powerhouse become a "me too" has-been.

Apparently, it's a part of a complete strategy refocus towards automotive, AI and drones.

Note how "wireless" doesn't appear in that list anymore, and IOT only appears in the list ot the extent that Intel thinks automotive is related to IOT.
