I heard big layoff is coming in TTS today from somebody. It seems senior leaders are already identifying team members who needs to be laid off. They are just waiting for holidays to be over. PG-6 and PG-7 will have most of the impact

I was there almost 2 decades. It was a good ride. But it's dying. As I sit here reading this, bored waiting for Windows updates to finish so I can shutdown my laptop, i realized just how irrelevant Target has become to me. Not because I don't want to shop there, but because I can't think of a reason to bother to do so. I've bought thousands of dollars of Christmas gifts this year. Most of that went to Amazon. Why? It's easier, trustworthy, in stock, search works, and it's fast. I guess I did buy one thing from Target, a $2.58 item that was shipped to me for free. Pretty sure it cost Target money to sell it to me. After CVS goofed up my RX refills the 3rd month in a row, I moved my prescriptions. Not because I really wanted to, but because I didn't have time to deal with it any further, plus all of a sudden I was paying almost 5x as much. So... I became a Walmart pharmacy customer. Never thought I'd do that, but the prices are back to being reasonable and they fill the prescriptions correctly. So are layoffs coming, yeah, probably. Many other people have been making the move to Amazon, Costco, walmart, etc. too. Because there just isn't a compelling reason to go to Target. And thinking owned brand merchandise is going to create a reason is stupid.
More money, fewer hours... That's what I found when I moved to another company.
I think this in store farming is clutch.
DONR, lots of people still refer to them as PG including my manager. I'd be more suspicious if OP referred to old PG numbers.
OP...if you knew your sh--...you would know paygrades no longer exist...we're level based now. Go away troll.
Its pretty simple, Target is shrinking or flat. Investor class want returns so expense cutting is where the gains will be made. Have fun in Jan.
oh my gosh! Yes, the ever credible disenfranchised sources
@buss, what you report is similar to rumblings I've heard on the inside. I haven't heard definitive areas called out, but know there's transformation happening with grocery and electronics. Rumblings include electronics moving toward Target Mobile model. My guess grocery is moving in similar direction, but not sure. Your rumor seems to confirm that? If all that pans out, makes sense there'd be RIF across company, including support areas like TTS and HR. Why carry payroll when there isn't work to do? In my area (and no, I won't say where to protect myself), workload's dropped significantly over the past 9 months. People are lucky to have an actual project now, let alone one aligned with a strategy. Another rumbling I've heard is a push for expenses (payroll) to be cut before start of next fiscal year (by end of Jan). This supports other reports of Jan RIF and makes sense since since Q3 numbers were due more to expense control than traffic and sales. Question is, will it be a one day event or a trickle spread over a few weeks?
About your Fisher comments. My observations are several directors and managers are in CYA mode to preserve and position themselves. They don't model our new behaviors and actually retaliate against DRs who challenge them or the status quo. It's created fear in many areas since it's assumed these are the leaders putting team members on 'the list'.
Disenfranchised sources. Bahahaha
If the layoff is systemic to meet 2017 it would make sense in January so the dust settles for the new fiscal year. If it was small organizational tweaking, could spread it in pockets through out the year. Unless you guys come up with a strategy going to have to continue to trim the bottom line to hit your numbers
Epic rant..... all completely false. Absolutely laughably ignorant.
What exactly is a "disadvantaged employee?"
So, NO confirmed Holiday layoffs, but plenty of Hyperbole. Enjoy the holidays all!
We have heard through multiple disenfranchised sources (merchandise planning within grocery and electronics) that the white/male leadership at TGT will be laying off an additional 2-3k corporate employees this holiday season. The fiscal numbers have been absolutely terrible compared to other upscale-discount retailers, yet hyped by the media in order to portray a false bias in favor of minorities (why does the media love a firm that so obviously negatively impacts minorities?!). This company has an atrocious history of letting the media know before the public (including internal, and especially female and disadvantaged employees) about layoffs.
The Tony Fisher days were an absolute nightmare from a customer/employee perspective and seem to be coming back (lies to the media, people skipping work, projects failing left and right). TGT will apparently downsize immensely in the coming weeks (15-20% of corporate numbers) and has already reached out to several journalists (NYT, Star Tribune, LA Times, etc) to pad the decision in terms of the general public reaction. MAJOR layoffs are coming from corporate grocery, especially by the end of their fiscal year. This should increase the price of the stock enough for major shareholders to eject before TGT announces the even more controversial exit from grocery permanently (you heard here first... hint, hint... RU rumors :). They should have done that in '08 when Fisher was still there destroying the few meaningful financial remnants of the firm. Fisher has left an irreparable legacy that will do unprecedented economic damage to Twin Cities families, customers, and employees for years to come as a result of his Canada lies to investors. Buy any and all stock in firms Tim Mantel is involved with. His record and reputation and flawless compared to Fisher's.
How about being a little specific. Where and when?
Of course they are coming. I've even seen some of the lists of selected people because, incredible as it seems one antiquated person actually printed of the lists of her direct reports, which I found on the printer. It's one Helluva way to find out that, after more than 15 years of dedicated service, I am to be let go early next year. I confronted my boss, an old friend from high school, who confirmed that he was fighting to get me off the list. I am on it because HIS boss claims to have seen me texting while driving, which is utterly false.
i am waiting to be laid off.. tired of living in fear.. please do layoffs quickly and give my severance..
yes ..yes.. layoffs are coming .. confirmed news .. January 2nd week.. Please start updating resumes.. Lot of companies in twin cities are recruiting and are ready to take TTS talent ..
fearful scrum master, don't worry .. u will find some job.. have confidence in your skills...
-1ngq , Thank you guys.. it gives me some boost now.. However, in TTS they are moving around people purposefully to do some of the un-important ( the work which will not have any meaning once this holiday is done) work ... i am one of those guys who moved into an area where i know for sure this work is not needed after holidays.. Do you see that i can survive?
With the exception of the India work center "major layoffs" are a thing of the past unless we see a significant business change i.e. dropping grocery all together or a drastic consecutive Q drop in sales and profit. Look around though the business is definitely changing. We/TGT are changing store format/size, moving to internal brand product across most categories, managing inventory moderately better and reformatting existing store merchandising space gearing toward active selling versus warehousing bland product. The environment I see is you (individual) either perform/deliver or you are out.
Logic would dictate that we're overdue for another major layoff. First, just look around you. There are people who have no business being in their role and others trying to justify their role everywhere. The required skill sets have changed but the people haven't, yet. Second, look at how hard the leadership is pushing cost reduction. Third, look at the market. We had a temporarily decent 3rd qtr but AMZN and WMT continue to tighten the screws. Art any rate, expect big changes soon.
-1ehp , at this point i am not worried about bonus.. i am worried about job.. i am getting some signals from my boss.. i see something is going on fishy... i may loose my job after holidays.. counting days at Target
Q3 sales were down 6.7% due to the removal of pharmacy and clinic sales as well as the 0.2 decline in comps.
-mrr, uhhhh. Did you only read the headlines and not the actual story. Revenue declined 7%, comps were down -.02%. Income only up because they cut expenses (think payroll) and had some 1 time accounting benefits. Hardly great results. Your bonus is now officially toast.
Target Q3 results are great.. still do you think they do layoffs?
I heard that Target was actually a French company and hated veterans.
I'll tell you what: Let's take a beat and wait until after January, but this post in a strangely similar format to one that was posted last year at this time and nothing happened. I'm guessing this year will yield the same results. I know this has been said over and over, but let's skip the BS and post actual fact as opposed to complete fabrications. Cheers!
They should ask for volunteers to leave w/ a severance package, place would be empty!
"It seems senior leaders are already identifying team members who needs to be laid off."
By "senior leaders" you mean Cornhole, and by "identifying team members" you mean just pulling names out of a hat and praying everything works out.
this is real. I heard from a sr.leader in TTS who is involved in this exercise
Gotta love these vague, wholly unsubstantiated sh--posts.
If you're going to post a rumor, be specific and try to specify your sources a little bit.
