Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

The real reason why manufacturing jobs are being lost... Not H1-B, not outsourcing.... Automation/robotics....

Go blame the robots... Don't let facts get in the way of your rhetoric......

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/mexico-taking-us-factory-jobs-070229122.html

But research shows that the automation of U.S. factories is a much bigger factor than foreign trade in the loss of factory jobs. A study at Ball State University's Center for Business and Economic Research last year found that trade accounted for just 13 percent of America's lost factory jobs. The vast majority of the lost jobs — 88 percent — were taken by robots and other homegrown factors that reduce factories' need for human labor.

"We're making more with fewer people," says Howard Shatz, a senior economist at the Rand Corp. think tank.

General Motors, for instance, now employs barely a third of the 600,000 workers it had in the 1970s. Yet it churns out more cars and trucks than ever.

Or look at production of steel and other primary metals. Since 1997, the United States has lost 265,000 jobs in the production of primary metals — a 42 percent plunge — at a time when such production in the U.S. has surged 38 percent.

Allan Collard-Wexler of Duke University and Jan De Loecker of Princeton University found last year that America didn't lose most steel jobs to foreign competition or faltering sales. Steel jobs vanished because of the rise of a new technology: Super-efficient mini-mills that make steel largely from scrap metal.

The robot revolution is just beginning.

The Boston Consulting Group predicts that investment in industrial robots will grow 10 percent a year in the 25-biggest export nations through 2025, up from 2 or 3 percent growth in recent years.

The economics of robotics are hard to argue with. When products are replaced or updated, robots can be reprogrammed far faster and more easily than people can be retrained.

If you're going to slam people, @lfk.... then you might want to make sense and also post something typo-free. People just laugh at those that are bullies/mean when their post is riddled with typos and nonsense.

WTF does You new d and education mean? Also, learn how to spell not surprised you can't comprehend at all so the stupid recurring theme here from jeolous and poor unemployed Americans.

@KeuOzDi-iza. You new d and education to work in technology not some American educated B student who can only speak one language and with limited thinking capability, duh. But not surprised you can't comprehend at all so the stupid recurring theme here from jeolous and poor unemployed Americans

Listen, when Intel hires an H1B instead of local talent to run an ADMIN, or FLM position that is ILLEGAL PERIOD. There IS a law suit coming and ALL THE H1Bs will be EXPORTED. Mark it here.

Lots of disgruntled boys here, guess you didn't have a mama or man in the house to teach you how to get really get ahead if you can't with all the advantages of growing up in good ole USA beat a foreigner. Perhaps to much video game and sports instead of math and science 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

@zps-"What you say is the classic rhetoric of someone from the far right wing. It's like you listen to the same fox news channel about how some PHD students cheated.."

Only fringe kooks from the far-left blame Fox News. You sound like that POS community organizer BHO who blames everyone for his failures the past eight years.

By the way, I don't have a problem with true talent H1b people. At my company I've seen them higher h1b people into a position they never had any experience in. A device engineer position, where the person hired never used any of the simulation tools(Silvaco), and had never done any device level design.

I have also seen very well deserving H1b people, that did earn their positions, but the ones that don't seem to overwhelm the one's that do.

And your so smart your asking questions from your freshman year of college. The answer is 89khz. You have to sample twice the highest frequency component of the signal.

I have had enough of your sh-- not answering anymore questions.

Dude, can you say anything else besides dumb mf? I mean, if you're so smart, why are you still struggling financially? Doh

Cool... Let's move on.. If I have an analog signal of 44.5khz, and I want to sample it, what is the slowest I can sample it at to be able to fully reconstruct the signal?

We can be here all night...

Actually, I'm one of the american born STEM degreed people who is very well educated, unlike you....And I'm pretty sure you aren't.... If in doubt, let's do a little math, shall we? Here's a very simple singles and systems problem for you to solve, any junior bachelor candidate in EE worth his salt should have no problem....

Given this function: x(t) = cos(3πt) + 2cos(4πt)

Is this function periodic, and if so what is it's period?

You must be one of those no talent H1B f---. There are talented foreign students they get the O-1 visa. The h1b's like you are the no talent, easy to manipulate and keep in line for low pay ucks.

@ckg...What you say is the classic rhetoric of someone from the far right wing. It's like you listen to the same fox news channel about how some PHD students cheated...And then you exaggerate that by making the same statement that "I met many PHD students that cheated".....

Which is a blatant lie. Most likely, you don't have a college degree. And most likely you have nowhere near the education level that you could possibly be associated to anyone with a reasonable science degree. Because if you did, you would have worked with many of them, and it would be obvious the majority of the H1-B do not cheat but are much more capable that most americans, including you.

And that applies to all H1B's with PHD's, including the white eastern europeans, and russians, that tend to occupy a lot of STEM degrees in robotics and aeronautics engineering too. If fact, when I was in school... It seemed to be that all the advanced degree STEM students said the same thing (Russian, Jewish, Chinese, Indians, Koreans, Romanian, Germans)...."Man, there sure are a lot of dumb americans in this country that can't even calculate 10% without whipping out a calculator, lol"

Bullsh*t. I have met many Phd's that got their Phd in the u.s. but could barely speak or write clear english. However their thesis work was somehow in perfect english.

Also, if your an American getting a Master's or Phd in the US its basically sentencing you to a lifetime of debt. Foreign students usually get their Bachelor's or Master's covered in their home country and then when they come to the US, its not a big deal to borrow a little to get that Master's or Phd, sometimes its even subsidized by the university or their home country.

H1b's need to go. We only need the O-1 and EB-1 visa people, they are the ones with true talent!

Obvious response in this climate, get a better education which is what those in the know do; study you a$$ off, aspire to get into the best university (most in the US) and invest in PhD.

What do Americans do, whine and ask for protection, and wonder why China is the next global and booming economy, LOL
