Thread regarding IBM layoffs

IBM - EU to USA Transfer

Does IBM still support international transfers, in my particular case it'd be from the EU to the USA. Large scale SAP implementations experience, 4 years with IBM - 11 w/SAP, moving due to a family situation (wife is being transferred to the USA) - I know this site is an awkward place to fish for responses but it seems to have a few threads that fall in this 'help me' category....

They will tansfer you only if your skills very high in demand, and there is no supply. You also need to be well connected, you'll need someone put in a good word for you , basically somebody needs to push for you... Transfers cannot be pushed (like you are trying to do), you can only be pulled (project needs to want you)... There are so many SAP folks on the bench right now, I highly doubt this is doable even if you were to fit all criteria....

You may want to to on GOM and select "USA" as your home country, enter your band, and select the "Relevant Programs - OCC" as an option... You should see some stuff returned, but many will be just 'pro-forma' postings, meaning someone posted it cause they had to (it's the process) but they already have the role filled.

Your best bet is quitting and replying again, it's cleaner and it's doable... The regular process is more or less kind of sci-fi right now...

Finally, we used to have a program that would help you relocate, it worked fine and I know several folks who used it - there were resources (actual people who would walk you through the process and help with everything) - this was discontinued in 2013....

I hope this helps.

@1fhv is correct - TLDR: forget about it

@1hcb it used to work that way, I really doubt that someone fairly new to IBM would ever be able to pull something like this off - I might be wrong though - just my opinion

It does support that. Look up C2C (Country to Country) transfer in W3, there is a lot of info. I have done it several times. For EU-->US IBM will look to sponsor you for a H1B visa. I am assuming you have found a job with IBM US and they are willing to transfer you though, otherwise there is little chance for it to work given the European voluntary and involuntary redundancies currently going on and the associated hiring freeze in GBS legacy Lines of Business.

More than likely you would have to resign from your job in the EU and apply for an open position, as would any new prospective employee, in the US. Do not expect to "transfer" with any support or assistance from IBM.
