@1hyw - Kirk basically listened to the sales force during the time when AMD was kicking butt in the server business and laid the foundation for what DCG is today. Xeon architecture would not be in its present dominating position without him. Current management is credited with DCG success, but a simple public-info product review would show that there hasn't been any fundamental change in Xeon architecture since Kirk's era. That sets the stage for an eventual ARM-based assault. Not today. Not tomorrow. But in the not-too-distant future.
For people that think Kirk is so good lay it out what made him so good. Intel is need of a producer transformation was Kirk doing it or was/is he capable?
@yhl - That's right ... Kirk runs circles around fatso. One of the few last great executives to leave Intel (I think extremely few or none are left at this point).
Kirk is going to give fatso headache by pressuring on cheaper silicon or else go with AMD or Qualcomm

Intel didn't "exit this genius" @yzi. The genius exited on his own when Murthy was hired and he saw no future at Intel. The only thing that wasn't genius for him was his timing (I think, not entirely sure). He might have been too early out to accept a package, if he was even going to be offered one. He might not have qualified for ERP. Unsure of how many years he was there.
Kirk sees the writing on the wall with respect to Intel.
Hey let's be honest Intel product process is totally broken and new blood needed to fix it. I am sure he is a great guy but greater guy would have identified it was broken and created true Lu great products.. more cores, faster graphics.... blah blah blah, people don't care.
Kirk is an absolute amazing individual. I loved his total recall of events, technical details, road maps and really any question anyone would ask, all without notes during the bums. Why in the hell did Intel exit this genius I will never fathom.

Used to wine and dine the buyers now he is the buyer and he got the inside knowledge to squeeze the best deals out of his former employers. He knows all the price concessions fruity got, now Lenovo wants too. Interesting will be that negotiation room!
