Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Any ISPers hearing from LHH advisers?

This is last month of outplacement support. Good riddance to useless service!

What employees really needed was grief counseling, not lame never-ending rewrites of their resumes. One of the many counselors I was passed around by didn't even know the standard technical certifications I had in my resume and suggested I take 'all that jargon out.' Huh? She was a nice person as were all of them really, but I think it was a waste of time. I never got even one nibble, let alone an interview. Since my skill was so niched and had virtually gone away on the outside, I decided to just retire. Not ideal financially but I was kicked to the curb by Intel for being too old. I hear an RCG has my old job now.

LHH career advice is like BK strategic plans for Intel.

Dumbed down to key catch phrases and hope you can fool them!

I found job on my own. LHH didn't help much.

Agree with most of the comments here.

If you have your head screwed on they do not have anything very productive to offer. They wanted me to edit, edit, and re-edit my resume and cut it down to 2 low-density pages, hide my decades of experience, and limit it to superficial buzz-words covering only the last 10 years. I did not.

I kept it as 3 pages of dense relevant information. Actively advertised my advanced age. Posted it to Linked In and sat back. Within a month I was sitting on 2 job offers, which I declined because I felt more were going to come. They did. I filled 3 months with some consulting and landed a job 20% better paying than Intel.

Their suggestion for a consulting fee was to take my Intel salary and divide by 2080 to get a fair hourly rate. I ignored that and successfully charged 3x that.

Basically, LHH are out of touch with what skills a competent engineer brings to the table. They want people to sign up so they get a fee, and land any job within 6 months so they can declare a success. Their advice is geared to meet that desire; not the job-seeker's desire.

May be more suitable for semi-skilled labor placement.

Very dissatisfied with the advice they gave. Glad I ignored it all.

LHH is a joke! When I gave them feedback, they said I got my job due to my great networking skills.

What networking, I sent my resume to the companies that did the same work. They looked at my detailed three pager and were impressed. What I did was ignore all their stupid suggestions for LinkedIn and resume. I didn't hide my age nor how much experience I had. I had two decades doing what I did, I was dang good! Did t need to hide I was middle age. Companies wanted me for my skills and experience.

LHh don't know $hit about how to help you!

Total waste of time and utterly useless. I never opened an online account like they wanted, so they did it for me. Never used them for anything or shared any info with them . But since they opened the account for me, they claim credit to Intel for another ex-employee 'using their services', which is how they get paid. Complete ripoff!

These people are Kool aid fanatics who only care about their report out to BK. Recently, I wanted to speak to them about current job market and career trends, geographical trends, possibilities in service vs mfg, trends for next year, etc. This info needed simply to set up for next job market season, assuming a slump for remainder of year. They wanted to keep nitpicking my resume which they had done four months in a row. Obviously, they don't listen nor understand my needs as a customer. Never answered my questions. Waste of time. More old HR, non-dynamic fogies simply looking to hang onto a job by doing minimal work.

There is nothing left in the tank when dealing with LHH advisers. These people are all ex-HR management with no insight to which companies are hiring, or going to be hiring. Their strategy is to have you network through LinkedIn. Gee! Like this will be something to give you an advantage ad a job seeker! Their only other suggestion is to keep changing your resume to match each job opportunity to "fool the computer algorithm". The service is a joke. Thank goodness Intel paid for it and not us!

I got a few emails and 2 calls on for start of service and one for ending date- when i was told by a LHH counselor that all data of our interactions etc. even log ons was being shared (no names) with their employer BK - i stopped all any further interaction with this esteemed service. except for resume formatting and webinars on interviewing they had nothing to offer besides wanting me to network with my previous team and managers who supported my ISP-- seems really worst kind of BS.

Networking with friends and relatives all not associated with BK's company almost as distant as MARS from him and his company has helped and is real help. also internet job sites have much better professional advice and even paid for services where folks are not reporting back to BK.

I got what I paid for...nothing. Intel got ripped off paying for this service. Should have just given the money spent to the ISP folks.

Let's be clear: Intel hired LHH to be able to say that they supported the employees that they laid off. The service, to be honest, was next to useless for me. I found a new job on my own.

I am going through the LHH service now. They helped me to improve my Resume layout and cover letter and we trained on potential interview's questions. It's no help though for preparing for technical interview questions (I am a SW engineer), for that I am using informations from the internet.

I think they are not as bad, as they say here and since it's free I would at least try few sessions.

I am grateful for LHH. I have not gotten a job but they did prepare me to apply and I got a lot of interviews (but no cigar yet). Their workshops helped me through my grieving period. Like they say, misery loves company and being around fellow ISPers on May and June actually lifted my spirits. I regret not having used their Skillsoft online training more often than what I did. May advisor did check in with me and tried to provide good advise.
