Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Anyone think Intel can or wants to really win in Autos?

A lot of press about autonomous driving and autos being big compute platforms.

Sure electronic value is growing a few hundred bucks spread among a few hundred chips. With wifi based 5g and autonomous driving maybe a 1000 bucks or more in a few hundred chips.

Think Intel x86 and desire for 60% GM or Qualcomm in partnership with the overseas foundry willing to sell chips for a few bucks or less is going to win.

Sorry Intel another BK

@KbqnkH0-ppr : self driving needs a lot of compute power, and the current state of the art is on Nvidia gpus. Sure, google car runs on a bunch of xeons, but I am not sure that would be a viable solution for mass deployment when you can get what you need through a gpu. In terms of other car functions, arm has the r series options, which are hardened to fit all the international standards for functional safety (not sure what x86 machines can do that), and you can always go a72 if you need high performance for the infotainment. I am sure x86 is fine for infotainment as well, but I doubt that is where the money is.

Intel how far have they fallen, maybe if you b---s--- enough it becomes real! Sorry the real world doesn't work like the BK, because you say it at IDF and circuit doesn't make it so, LOL

"Also who knew that Intel was a leader in 5G? They can barely get the current iPhone modem to work."

Only on Circuit is Intel a leader in 5G. The people who write it don't even believe it.

So true!

Check out the article. and the photo of BK with BMW. He has that "I wonder what's for lunch?" look. Also who knew that Intel was a leader in 5G? They can barely get the current iPhone modem to work.

All about computational efficiency and at 10nm ARM will beat intel. Also none of the x86 legacy and dead weight, who the hell uses windows legacy these days?

As I am not an engineer this may be a stupid question, but wouldn't a faster and more powerful processor than is needed for a smart phone or is currently available from ARM be required to handle and quickly process all the information needed by a self driving car?

three dimensional rush hour? Intel has enough problems with graphics drivers.

@pxy - so flying cars are out? because I'm still waiting for my dang flying car, it's the 21st century already, WTF?

NO. Self driving cars are one of THE STUPIDEST UNSAFE ideas ever. That and drones.

X86 has as much competitive advantage in cars as they did in phone and tablets! I predict same outcome with similar losses. Or did BK by laying off 12k change PPAC of x86 to be more compelling?
