Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Any proof? There's a guy who can magically afford test equipment that costs in the upper five digit range just to run some web site. He runs tests on the new iPhone with an invalid configuration that does not appear on live networks - the one configuration that "kills" Intel modems in low signal situations. It takes a LOT of trial and error to find that kind of a configuration. And apparently, in all that trial and error, he ignored all the configurations that may have been less favorable for the Qualcomm modem. He must have looked REALLY hard to find this, and someone very knowledgeable must have been guiding him on his way to finding the killer config. Really need more proof?

As far as me being paid by Intel: I quit my job at Intel last month, not as part of ACT, but because I am sick of that sh-- company, so I don't care if the modem business goes down or not (in fact, I know it will, because Aicha's roadmap is a ridiculous joke). I am just sick of all the clueless idiots believing that Qualcomm propaganda.

How is the Intel modem in iPhone 7 a failure? Are people still going on about that Qualcomm-paid shill who published that ridiculous article about how the Intel modem supposedly performs badly (by creating a scenario that you will not find in any real life network, as anyone with a basic clue about LTE will confirm)?

Because from a business side, it has been a huge success. There's a reason why Qualcomm stoops so low that they would pay someone to make their competition look bad. Apple is basically just shrugging that report off.

As far as Aicha goes - I agree. The Apple win was not because of her, but despite her and despite her incompetent staff.

I worked in the mobile group for many years, and found Aicha to be lacking in both vision and people skills. Her reorganizations were confusing and unhelpful, her quarterly group syncs mostly consisted of chiding and self congratulation, and her strategic moves were flawed (SoFIA, Motorola acquisition, ...) So I don't agree that Aicha's failure was the result of underperforming and uncooperative staff - she hasn't provided the leadership needed to make any team successful. Effective leadership needs both vision and purple skills, and I never saw either.

She DID quit. And BK brought her back as an URM "trophy" executive. Having said that, I'm not sure I agree with your assesment on Aicha. While she may have some sort of vision, I'm not so sure about her technical skills, and on the contrary, I do believe she is more on the "people" side of skills. If she has what it takes to manage an upper level staff full of backstabbers, I don't know.

Anyways, the proof is in the pudding (or shall we say, the products going out the door). Intel iPhone7 modem is little more than a total failure, and Apple must have taken it on some sort of deal resembling the contra-revenue strategy for tablets. And we all know how that went a few years down the road.

I wonder what Aicha's Focal talks with her staff members look like.

Aicha: What is your vision for your org?

Answer: Uh... dunno...

Aicha: How many all-hands meetings have you done with your org in the last year?

Aicha: Well, you should count yourself lucky, because I am SUPPOSED to grade you guys on a bell curve, but as usual, we will push the IRs and SSL4s down the ladder to the people who actually could have given reasonable answers to my questions.

Answer: Ok then. Sounds fair.

Aicha is actually one of the rare upper managers with a meaningful vision for the company's future. The problem is that while she is technically highly competent, she is somehow not able to deal with people.

Proof?

• She has a staff that completely ignores her. They sabotaged most of her improvement initiatives. Yet she never got them under control.

• She never managed to get the legacy PC processor guys to support her in bringing Intel into the modem.

• She didn't manage to get BK, Amir and Murthy to fully support her in that.

No idea why she is still in the company. She should have quit on frustration, while BK should have installed someone with stronger people skills.
