How about taking unpaid furlough and then coming back and getting RIF'd!!!! YUP - that's what happened to me. I told them the least they could have done was be honest so I could have been looking for another job while I was on furlough....maybe I could have had something lined up when I went back and was RIF'd. And now too old for other employers to even consider looking at my talents because they are worried about my proximity to retirement. Got screwed ROYALLY!
I've seen too many good folks RIFed were worth keeping. I seriously walked past a manager sleeping at his cube this week. Do not expect any of your behaviors to impact being picked or not. It is simply a matter of money and who you know. I am tired of being afraid of when or how the ax will fall on me or my co workers. I walk around numb and see the same expression on everyone else's faces. At least they didn't call the furlough to be the Christmas holiday and F us out of pay for the break...so I guess that's our Christmas bonus, we get to say we are still employed for a couple more weeks...yay
A lot of exemptions going on.
Refuse to do it if you have a choice. I did something similar only to come back and get RIF'ed. They lied and claimed they didn't know a rif was coming.
