Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Does anyone really care anymore?

When a company takes so much away and leaves their employees mentally and emotionally battered and beat up, eventually you stop caring.

RIF or not. I don't care anymore.

I'm so sorry for those who have young families to take care of- I am past that point but in the category of 6 years from retirement so kind of beyond the age of starting my career over, or even finding a decent job with benefits. (Statistics show if you are over 50 and you can find a job, expect 40-60% less pay).

Anyway- I just don't care anymore. I should have volunteered.

We need a nickname for Cote. Jack Welch was Neutron Jack -- he left only empty buildings in his wake after massive layoffs. How about Alligator Arms Cote -- eats and eats and wants everyone else to pick up the tab. He's a greedy reptile with an annoying Boston accent.

@-2bvi "What the hell has happened to America and American Corporate management?"

For example:

  1. Chainsaw Al Dunlap (Scott Paper/Sunbeam)

  2. Jack Welch (GE)

  3. Larry Bossidy (former GE)

  4. Dave Cote (former GE)

Do you see the GE pattern? Although Dunlap didn't work for GE his style of slash & burn fraud has worked well for many others since him. All companies are told by mainstream business media that GE is the company to emulated. We're all doomed...

I am sympathetic to the mistreatment and stress. I got out 4 years ago after more than 25 years. I was a band 4. The last straw was them denying my bonus despite being block 5 and not in the elbow or on a PIP. They wanted me out and after five years of abuse I did what was right to preserve my dignity and self respect and retired. Sad that it has come to this. I was able to work as a contractor and made it to social security age without financial hardship. I remember the good old days when Allied Signal Garrett was still like a family and they treated you as such. What the hell has happened to America and American Corporate management? Sickening.

This high performer is finished. Always took pride in my work. Always on the ready to support the team at a moment's notice. Gave up nights, weekends, holidays, vacations. Don't want to become a person who doesn't care - and I'm becoming that - so it is time to go. Thought I would be here for many more years, but that will not happen. Sad, disappointing. Disgusting. Time to make a difference somewhere else.

People tend to become callous and skeptical of a company whose stock price and CEO severance come before employee treatment/well-being. The government has had to step in on companies like this in the past, but don't hold your breath. As long as companies unite in these behaviors, the practices will become the norm and there will be too many to take down. When a company actively posts positions open but then tells an employee their position has been eliminated, the company demonstrates to us the kind of a$$ backward corrupt thinking that is ruining our workers lives and eroding away the greatness of our country.

it's not about right and wrong

I disagree. Right and wrong has a place in every discussion, especially in situations where people give justifications for behavior that is objectively wrong. These people get plenty of compassion from others on this board but it's alarming how seldom they're called out on their behavior.

I never thought I would not care. But I really don't care anymore. That doesn't mean I don't have pride or allow my integrity to be damaged. It means I give good work for 8 hours. But I stop after 8 hours and don't work free OT. Or log in at 10pm to check in, fix things and be a great and efficient employee. No more. Not that I would have time for free OT anyway with the long drives to/from work.

It means to have little compassion for those that are struggling with all changes. I understand your arguments but it's not about right vs wrong, it's being human and understanding the struggles of your colegues. That's all, may all of you have better 2017.

how RIFs are handled

It has to be hurtful to the average employee who has put in time with the company. However, reading some of the posts on this board would help to clarify why they would have a policy like that.

I've read comments where supposed employees have talked about actively sabatoging their work, intentionally dragging their feet to slow progress, discouraging prospective employees from joining, telling vendors to stop selling to us (and customers to stop buying from us), etc. and that is from employees who ARENT being riffed.

its employees like this that are why the policy exists. And I'm willing to bet that employees have historically caused damage during the rif process, hence the policy.

I was not happy and have moved on. Honeywell has to be one of the worst run companies out there. Feel sorry for my friends working there. For the optimist on here, you are not human.

If you knew how RIFs are handled, you would know just how much the company cares. Imagine being escorted around like you stole something, and not being able to speak to anyone. You are treated liked a piece of garbage that might leak everywhere. All of your documentation will list you as terminated. You might get interviewed for new jobs there's, but you'll never work there again. So moral of the story, if Honeywell slights you, they will do so in a manner that protects them from retaliation for doing what they know damn well is wrong. They will add insult to injury by hiring both after and during the RIF for your job. Not a job like it...your exact job. Also don't expect a fair letter of recommendation from anyone as their goal is to prove you weren't worth keeping, not give evidence to the contrary. When the door slams in your face at Honeywell, they mean to put you down as hard and as quickly as possible.

LESS compensation (less benefits, same pay). Not "no" compensation. So I'll meet you halfway and concede that they expect a "reduced-fare ride" 😉

Exactly.

They are expecting us to work as hard (and meet the same deadlines) with less compensation. Free-ride is a right word imo.

Ok here we go.

First if you have proof of "NEVER fairly compensated in kind, but that was mostly due to incompetent, prejudiced and racist managers" there are legal ways to state your case as with most employees of Hon. We can't do anything about policy changes, no raises, reduction in MIP if you get one at all and working for ingrates. So don't whine about things you could have and can do something about,

Being a perfectionist who loved my work for 43 years, 30 at HON, I use to care much more than most did, and was NEVER fairly compensated in kind, but that was mostly due to incompetent, prejudiced and racist managers. But now ALT has finally broken me and I care as much as they care for us. At this stage, I feel extremely insulted and demoralized and, YES, more than willing to sacrifice my pride, as it has been getting us nothing but diminishing returns in terms of RESPECT and compensation.

Understood. So your prior motivation was partially due to pride and partially due to reward expectations.

@bqv:

free ride for the company

How is it a free ride if they're still compensating us?

You guys with all of your grievances should just file the ultimate complaint: quit. What better way to put a huge exclamation point on all of your complaints?

Not sure if they stripped me of my pride but their actions made me not want to give of myself as I had gone knowing I'd get rewarded Via raises, MIP, having great benefits for me and my family which has all but gone away.

@KW1x7sH-laf:

You can probably be held to a higher standard than others who most likely didn't "give a s--- anymore" shortly after hiring on. This is because at least at one point in time you held yourself to a higher standard via intrinsic motivation (pride).

So did only the company change or did you change with it? (The company couldn't have stripped you of your pride, could it?)

Well, they must have expected this kind of morale deterioration, which is the cost of saved expense. If we care about work regardless, then that is indeed a free-ride for the company.

Nope. Don't give a sh-- anymore. One foot out the door already. Leadership doesn't care about anything but their pockets, why should I.

There was a time I believed and took ownership just like your describing. I used to walk out at night and smile to myself seeing just a few cars remaining in the parking lot thinking I've really made a difference, or getting up st 2:30 AM to go in to the lab to fix a fault in a 24/7 test. That was long ago as I've been here 34 years+.

They don't care and show no pride in us so they get the same response from me going forward. 8 and to the gate. Hope you understand how one can go from caring so deeply to where I am along with do many others.

Not me. The day I stop caring is the day I give two weeks notice. (And even then I'd still try to care till I'm gone.)

It just seems wrong to me to collect compensation without giving 100%. Almost like being on welfare. You know?

Lots of high performers are looking to leave. We all have been treading water for so long these last policy changes are pushing us over the edge. How can you trust each manager to fairly institute their own vacation policy but yet not trust them to monitor their employees working from home. 2017 will continue to see the exodus.

During one of the last town halls, dome mangers take away banner st the bottom of the slide read "Stick With Us" they really don't get it. Who in their right mind would stick with them if they had any options at all? Things will never get better, never.

I'm glad the RIF is finally coming. My hope they don't do another furlough, those do hurt month over month.

I have always been a company man, but i, too, am broken. I really could care less about this place, their priorities, etc. i have lost any/all sense of urgency. I see this same philosophy across all levels 'left behind' to try to produce. I intentionally didn't VRIF as i knew it was futile. Will have to take the plan B when results suffer, or unable to work an hour past 40, and then get placed on a PIP, and maybe get 26 weeks severance.

I stopped caring months ago. Hell, I was given an award last week and I haven't done sh-- in months. This place is awesome!! I can't wait to abuse the hell out of unlimited vacation. I'll work 41 days a quarter max. Please put me on a PIP.

40-60% of something is still better than 100% of nothing. I realize it's a big change but that's life. Honeywell will never be what it used to, thanks to our wonderful CEO and his buddies. 2016 was a breaking point for me.
