Schlumberger has laid off thousands of employees in Houston because H1-B visa holders are doing the job and hence US citizens are not needed in Houston.

Most of the highly paid h1bs have degrees out of top US universities. Admissions and graduation to these requires significant achievements in your profile.
So all the community college grads who never saw a world class set up please shut up.

foreign students don't have debt to repay. at the grad school level their tuition and fees are waived or their home country is paying the way. their undergrad degrees were paid for in their home countries. As grad students and post-docs, foreign students have at least 2 yrs of tax advantages and chinese students/post-docs never have to pay the back taxes if they stay beyond their student or post-doc visas. yet more advantages over US students entering the job market. been that way for decades.

You realize that most Indians, but also Chinese come to the US with an F1 visa (student visa) and the education they receive if from American colleges, in most cases highly rated private ones or the best public ones because for international students the tuition is the highest? They can't play the card of residence to get the discounted tuition and there is no equivalent to community college for graduate studies, so, they usually get or try to get in the best universities they can and later they have the motivation of 80 or 90 thousands of dollars in debt to repay.
Those indian degrees aren't worth much based on the quality of people I've seen;-) You are here because slb and others cheating on hib program and you're cheaper. None of you would be here if they have to pay you prevailing wages. But Mr Trump will take care of your situation soon

Because we get paid more to be smart here. It's all about the money, this is the purest American philosophy, exported all over the world through movies and tv series. Money is God and we all worship it. You say "money talks, bs walks", we are getting paid and you are getting the boot... how does it feel?
But even better, you fight to have this crappy unemployment insurance because you think that anything better will hurt the businesses, you fight to don't have universal healthcare because you don't want to pay for the people out of job, you fight to have expensive schools, which you can't afford just to watch football games, you fight to have less regulation so you can have a little cheaper clothes, and food, and car, while polluting the rest of the planet.... and now the system found someone willing to work for a little less money, which is willing to fight a little harder, and be a little less entitled... you dare to complain?

After he uses his phone and pen, all companies with operations in the US will have a certain amount of time to become compliant. H1B's will now have to train US citizens to take their jobs! Please!?? Like Trump is going to do anything. There are whole groups here which are filled with visa holders minus the one or two non-Cheeto eating Americans we decided to keep. Getting rid of the visa holders status in the offices within the Houston area would completely shut down Schlumberger.
