Havant, UK. Guadalajara, MX. Seem ban, MY and some downsizing and closures in the US still to come. Much of it is because of recent acquisitions... you just don't need 6 manufacturing sites and 18 engineering design sites when you can produce at 3 and it's more cost effective to have 10 good engineers working with others remotely than 30 OK engineers with only half a workload as products are phased out. As disk drives decline, you don't make as many and less product using them and the engineers need to be ssd proficient, we'll then you rif 20 engineers and hire a couple with newer skill sets. It's never perfect and some good people are lost along the way unfortunately but it's a good business decision.

Finally GDL is closing. Seagate regrets Xyratex decision to move it to GDL. It was a huge disaster and it has not gotten any better. Believe me the incompetence was rampant.

After 22 years I was a Seagate rif victim and believe me, it was the BEST thing that ever happened to me career-wise.
My current employer (17 years now) has much more regards for it's employees!
Of course Seagate execs do not have any regard for their workforce! That is why I haven't worked there in years. I want to matter, and I can't at Seagate.
Guadalajara will be transfer to Foxcon, Seagate is subbing all the work to contract manufacture.

It is surprising that a company that builds storage devices, is run by Executives that place little to no value on IT. They admit they don't know what IT does.
Isn't Guadalajara replacing Havant? Why would they close both?
Stop trying to justify how this company treats it people. Always putting the shareholders ahead of the employees. This company has a complete and utter disregard for the welfare of its people and its disgusting.
