Not sure what people are looking for. The layoff happen and everybody goes their separate way. Except, people who do like Seagate that got layoff, will do their best to get back to this industry. Seagate is a company that have provide put many rice or steak on people across Colorado. Thank-you.

To Move on, you need to have a change of slight mindset regarding reusing your skills, skillsets, tool, toolsets. Do not think in terms pro and con of layoff, that is water under the bridge. Think how you want your skill to be use. if you know some python, there is a whole new world out there. if you know quality, remember there is hardware and software quality, if you know firmware, try embedded, if you know purchasing, many companies have purchasing. if you do not have a specific skill, developed one or two now. Many online resources. Always go for free first unless Seagate paid for it.

Hi, all. I'm the business reporter for the Daily Camera and Times-Call.

I am attempting to follow this story, as I have been this week. So far, I have nothing: No WARN notice, no reply from Seagate or local econ development people, and no tipster to the paper has returned my call or email. PLEASE call me if you have information. I need three sources to be able to report something.

I can be reached at 303.473.1626 or castles@dailycamera.com.

Newspapers don't report news anymore. They don't spend the money on reporters, they simply copy press releases. You'll read about it when Seagate provides that press release. Don't expect to read anything other than what the company wants you to know.

Everyone is replaceable anywhere. That is fact, not fiction. What will happen when deep learning takes over? It will be much worse in many ways, but much better at the same time in many other ways. Any factory job including in the US is Slave Labor, no matter how much you are making. AI will take over the slave labor all over the world soon, including the US. The prices of goods will drop and will be much more affordable. Many people have mentioned Basic Universal Income. Yes I know many people don't like the idea and they think of the concept kind of like Communism or Socialism. But the truth if you really think about it, almost anyone that is working for a company would rather do something else, work on their own thing, or have a successful business. I know that is true, because several people inside of Seagate that I have spoken to all have dreams and aspirations to something much better. And it is not only true to Seagate but almost any other company. Even if you look at some of the other successful start ups, they all started because they were not happy working for their employer.

Most peoples jobs stink and are only good for the money, not because of the job its self. I am currently working at Seagate, and don't like my job. Many others have stated similar views.

People will always be salve to the decision made by upper management, middle management, or the collective of the company the work at. And most companies only care about making quick money of of products that are not forward looking things. This is most certainly true within Seagate when they mentioned "Cash Cow". But it is also true at most other companies.

Universal basic income would eliminate this completely and would usher in a new era of working on things that people really enjoy to do. By collapsing Well Fair, WIC, Social Security, Medicate, etc into one program called basic universal income would be the solution. As well it would be available to all citizens.

Another bonus would be that everything that is earned on top is kept.

New income = Old income + basic universal income.

This would solve all problems. As well non Citizens would not have access, which would eliminate peoples fears of illegal immigrants taking their jobs.

I've lived in Longmont all of my life. All of the local papers are owned by the same company, and they don't really have any reporters. Also, I don't think there has been an announcement from Seagate.

https://mn.gov/deed/programs-services/dislocated-worker/reports/

It will probably show up in January, since most reports are one month back. As well Seagate has already filed the SEC report in the summer that they are planning to layoff 8100 employees so they probably will not report individual restructuring efforts per location.

Yes, I agree!

I've been looking at the Times Call and Daily Camera web sites all day, and haven't seen any mention of the lay off. I also looked at the Star Tribune web page in Shakopee, and nothing there either.

Local news usually gives very little coverage of companies headquartered in other states no matter how many people they employ locally. Also there did not seem to be any press release from Seagate about this action. It was pre-announced last summer so apparently they didn't feel the need to announce it again.
