Possibility of negotiating severance terms

I would assume that all the terms are standard and non-negotiable for the severance...

But I thought I'd go ahead and ask anyway.

Anyhow, did anyone try to negotiate some different terms (For health care, or end date, or anything)?

I had attorney speak with Seagate and no negotiations, take it or leave it. If you take severance, you can't sue Seagate for anything. This includes possible class action lawsuits for identity theft, you can't join any of those. Unless you have proof of discrimination, not much you can do to sue. Also remember, you will be taxed about 40% on severance and it will delay unemployment for the # of weeks of severance. If you get 12 wks severance, you can't file for unemployment until 12 wks after termination.

No, I didn't.

I was happy with the number they gave me.

After 15 years, they're going to give me 30 weeks of pay, plus the 5 weeks of vacation time I never used.

I'll sign on the dotted line for that!!

There's nothing to negotiate unless you have proof of discrimination. Otherwise they'll likely retaliate and pull what little they did offer you. Let's remember, were talking seagate here. Keep your mouth shut and take what is offered.

Negotiate ? What is it that you have for negotiation ? If the company don't pay you more or get you what you need, you are going to do what ?

2 weeks for each year you served at seagate. no negotiate on term, what it is on term you sign or don't sign then go talk to a lawyer. Talk to the lawyer now if you think you have a case, otherwise, move forward with your serverance package
