Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

PCs are obsolete

People are throwing away their old ones and not even replacing them. We are very far from the bottom. Intel is still way too big to support this declining market.

That's 5%

What about the other 95%?

Emerging markets in Asia have already abandoned PCs. US and Europe are showing signs of this also.

Most people don't actually need a full blown PC. But feel free to deny reality. Even Intel understands this and is defunding client PC. Check out Stacy Smith and his recent comments on spending.

PC's not being replaced....I think not. PC's have their place in all businesses. Gamers use them and not phones, laptops or tablets for their gaming fun. Those who are consultants and professionals that need lots of graphic hardware or memory will always have a PC. Phones are secondary to the PC at home. PC's are being made to last longer than they use to and people have been demanding software that does not crash them so often as they use to. That is why they are not being bought as much as they use to be. It is the phone industry that is experiencing a slow down right now and the tablet market is having double digit falling sales. The tablets are being replaced by bigger phones.

Analysts from Nomura securities already said Intel is overspending which is costing the stock $5-6 in upside.

Shareholders won't stand for this for very long. Expect more layoffs starting with clown shoes BK.

With the death spiral of PCs, Intel's cost structure cannot even support servers as they lose manufacturing scale.

No, the PC is not like a washer/dryer.

People replace those.

The OP is saying that people won't even bother to replace their PCs if they break. For the vast majority of people, a smartphone and/or iPad gets the job done.

Not talking about professionals/engineers/creative artists etc... which are maybe 5% of the market.
